The Holidays Are Right Around the Corner! Here’s How You Can Look and Feel Your Best During the Holiday Season

Autumn is many people’s favorite time of year. With Halloween only a couple of weeks away and Thanksgiving less than a month after that, the holidays will be here before you know it. Are you ready?

Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali Sajjadian offers the safest, most reliable cosmetic enhancements in aesthetic medicine. He uses the most advanced techniques to enhance facial features, body contours, and breast fullness, elevation, and size. If you are unhappy with any aspect of your appearance and want to look and feel your best for the holidays, here are some procedures to consider to make this holiday season memorable.

Does your nose distract from your facial beauty? If so, Dr. Sajjadian is one of the most recognized rhinoplasty surgeons in Orange County for helping reshape and resize nasal contours. He not only performs various rhinoplasty techniques like ethnic rhinoplasty, preservation rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and a non-surgical nose job, but he also regularly lectures on the intricacies of these complex operations/

Rhinoplasty helps men and women find balance and symmetry to enhance facial appearances. The surgery takes a skilled and dedicated surgeon who has countless hours of training and experience delivering outstanding results.

When facial tissues surrender to gravity, creating unsightly wrinkles, folds, and jowls, Dr. Sajjadian recommends a facelift to take a decade or more off your appearance. Unlike popular dermal filler injections, facelift surgery offers long-lasting benefits to help men and women age gracefully without anyone suspecting they’ve had work done.

Though the signs of aging can arrive at different times and affect some people earlier than others, if you’re 40 or older, you might be an excellent facelift candidate.

Brow Lift

Though Botox® remains the world’s most popular cosmetic procedure, its results only last three to four months, on average. In contrast, a brow lift addresses many of the same concerns, but offers much longer-lasting results.

Sagging skin on the forehead and around the eyes can adversely affect your overall appearance, making you look tired and worn, with a permanent scowl. Dr. Sajjadian can address these concerns with various brow lift techniques to make you look younger, alert, and joyful for your holiday events.

Eyelid Lift

This advanced cosmetic procedure addresses the delicate skin of the upper and lower eyelids that become puffy and droopy with age. Blepharoplasty aims to help patients with prominent undereye bags, wrinkles, or excess skin.

Performed as an outpatient procedure, an eyelid lift is a quick and convenient operation to have you looking young and refreshed in a matter of weeks.

Breast Lift

A mastopexy lifts the breasts into a youthful elevation for women with sagging breasts, delivering that beautiful and sensual upward curve. It reinforces underlying breast tissue that loses its pliability with hormonal changes, pregnancy, and significant weight loss.

The results enhance breast appearance and boost self-confidence. If you desire a more dramatic outcome, consider combining the procedure with implants.

Breast Augmentation

Many women seek the services of a skilled surgeon to make their breasts stand out with natural, stunning results. In performing one of the most widely requested cosmetic procedures in Southern California and the United States, Dr. Sajjadian can help women enhance breast size and shape by positioning breast implants to improve contours and balance.

There are multiple breast augmentation options to choose from, and Dr. Sajjadian is an expert in helping you find the solution that will make you look your best for the holidays and beyond.

Liposuction is a procedure for men and women who struggle with unwanted fat bulges on their hips, abdomen, back, breasts, and arms. While diet and exercise is the preferred method to eliminate excess fat from the body, you may be genetically predisposed to accumulate fat from these specific trouble zones, no matter how diligent you are.

Liposuction permanently removes unwanted fat cells to improve body contours and help men and women feel comfortable in their skin. It also allows you to wear your favorite outfits that you may have pushed to the back of your closet because they are uncomfortably revealing.

Tummy Tuck

This popular body sculpting procedure reinforces the abdominal wall while eliminating excess skin and fat. It delivers a taut, tight tummy to look great in a bathing suit or that favorite formal gown. You will look stunning after your tummy tuck for your holiday parties and turn heads in the process.

Brazilian Butt Lift

Think Beyonce or Jennifer Lopez when you think Brazilian butt lift. This fat grafting procedure gives a woman that sensual, full bottom that attracts so many stares. Feel confident entering or leaving a room with a derriere that perfectly fills out jeans, dresses, or that favorite formal gown.

Surgery is not always necessary to look your best for the holidays. Dermal fillers, Botox®, radiofrequency skin treatments, and chemical peels are great ways to look younger with beautiful facial contours and healthy skin.

Choose the treatment that best works for your cosmetic concerns from our extensive MedSpa menu. You will be in the best of hands to help you look stunning for that office party or relaxing at home with family and friends.

How Many Times Do You Need to Get a Breast Augmentation?

Women have been enhancing their breasts with implants for several decades. Whether your goal is to increase breast size, improve breast shape, or correct breast asymmetry, breast implants can help you achieve your body shaping goals with long-lasting results. But the question is, for how long?

Do breast implants last a lifetime, or will they need exchanging every so often? Or, perhaps your lifestyle has changed, and it’s time to try something new. Will the devices begin to leak or rupture after a specific period?

It has become a matter of debate among surgeons and patients, and there are no right or wrong answers on how long an implant will last. There have been some estimates of 10 to 20 years, but the data is not concrete. Here are some things to consider if you are considering breast surgery for the first time or have been carrying your implants for years.

Are You Still Happy With Your Breast Appearance?

We’ll use the old cliché, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” If you are still happy with your figure and your breast appearance, don’t worry about changing your implants. If they don’t cause discomfort and show no sign of leakage or rupture, you’re good to leave well enough alone. Yes, you’ve probably read implants are not lifetime devices, but your mileage may vary.

However, there may come a time in your life where your original implants have outlived their usefulness. This phenomenon happens due to lifestyle changes and, of course, the natural aging process. Consider the following.

Lifestyle Preferences Have Changed

Women who become more active and take up physical exercise later in life may find larger implants bothersome. Heavy breasts can make running, swimming, and interval training uncomfortable. There are breast surgery options to help women who choose a healthier lifestyle if necessary. If your implants are too heavy or oversized for an active lifestyle, you could opt to downsize.

You’ve Entered a New Season in Life

Age is another reason implants may have outlived their usefulness. Older women have different body shaping goals than when they were younger. Plus, other parts of their body have changed, and they want their breasts to complement the differences.

Complications That Make a Change Necessary

Another thing to consider is unexpected life events that make a change necessary. These could be health-related or a problem with one or both of the implants.

An MRI Reveals a Problem

If you have silicone breast implants, you should have them tested with periodic MRIs to ensure no rupture or breakage. If the test reveals a ruptured implant, you should have them removed as soon as possible. Irritation, pain, or infection may result if left untreated. After removal, you can have them replaced with new models.

Capsular Contracture

This term describes the unpredictable complication of scar tissue forming around the breast implant. It may cause your breasts to harden. As a result, your breasts may look or feel different, and there could be some discomfort because the capsule tightens.

Implant Migration

This complication occurs when the complete implant moves out of its designated pocket. This issue is most prevalent after the first year and will require attention from a qualified plastic surgeon.

Breast implant rippling occurs when insufficient soft tissue coverage results from little overlying breast tissue and body fat. This possible phenomenon is most prevalent with thinner patients getting saline implants over the breast muscle.

Aesthetic Options After Implant Removal

Women who decide to have their implants removed have options to keep an aesthetically pleasing body that complements their lifestyle.

Implant Exchange

Breast implant exchange is a straightforward procedure, especially if there are no complications in the years following your original breast augmentation. First, Dr. Sajjadian will perform new incisions along your existing breast augmentation scars. Next, he will open the scar tissue capsules around your implants, then carefully remove the current implants. Lastly, he will insert the new implants you choose into the pockets and close them with sutures. The recovery that follows implant exchange is similar to the healing process after breast augmentation surgery.

Breast Lift With Implants

Like large natural breasts, augmented breasts with implants may sag over time. Normal aging and gravity may have created loose, stretched skin around implants you’ve had for several years. Other factors, like childbearing and weight fluctuation, can also contribute to this problem.

Dr. Sajjadian may combine your implant exchange with a breast lift to ensure your new implants remain in the correct position. Then, he will remove excess skin, insert your new implants, and adjust your nipple position if necessary. This operation will eliminate stretch marks, correct breast asymmetry, and create beautiful breast contours.

Saline vs. Silicone Implants

There are two different types of implants available to use for replacement. Saline implants have a silicone shell that gets filled with a saltwater solution after insertion into the breasts. If you choose saline implants, Dr. Sajjadian can make smaller incisions to introduce them. Saline also causes fewer complications in the event of a leak or rupture, because saltwater is harmless to your body. However, this material might ripple or feel less like genuine breast tissue.

A silicone implant has a silicone shell filled with a silicone gel, creating a feel more like natural breast tissue. Cohesive “gummy bear” implants are similar to their candy namesake, and are more anatomical for natural feel and look.

Implant Removal

Not all women require a breast lift after explant surgery, though many do. For example, if your breast implants were small, and you have excellent skin elasticity, you can have them removed without a breast lift. This operation is a simple surgical procedure that entails taking out your breast implants and their associated scar tissue through small incisions beneath each breast.

Before proceeding with breast implant removal, you should be aware your breasts will need time to adjust after the operation with a breast lift. That’s because breast implants apply pressure on the soft tissue inside the breasts, squeezing it into the lower portion of each breast. As a result, the compressed tissue gradually expands and migrates back into the upper part of your breasts after implant removal.

Time to Consider Your Summer Body With These Popular Procedures

For those of us who yearn to put our toes in the sand, summer can’t get here soon enough. Wearing that favorite bikini may be on your mind, but are you ready to reveal your body poolside? Consider cosmetic procedures to get your body into summer shape by addressing any aesthetic concerns of your figure.

Body sculpting is a type of plastic surgery designed to reshape your physique by curve enhancement, tummy flattening, or fat reduction. And if you also struggle with skin laxity, skin tightening is necessary to get you looking great in the sun.

Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali Sajjadian offers various procedures to get your body ready to show off. Some require surgery, while others are minimally invasive with little to no downtime. The options depend on your cosmetic concerns and desired goals.

Surgical Procedures

Dr. Sajjadian performs an array of body sculpting procedures to help you realize your cosmetic goals. In many cases, these surgeries lend themselves to artistic excellence. He has performed hundreds of operations in the Newport Beach/Orange County areas, delivering the desired outcome for an overall body appearance.  Here are the surgical options to choose from.

Breast Augmentation

Sometimes, breast volume diminishes with childbearing or age. Or, if your natural breasts are too small for your body type, a breast augmentation can deliver larger, shapelier.

Breast Lift

If your breasts sag, droop, or have excess skin, a breast lift can restore breast elevation and strengthen breast tissue. Results include youthful breast location with that sensual upward curve.

Have diet and exercise failed to give you your desired figure? It might be time to pursue another option. Liposuction permanently removes unwanted fat cells from trouble spots like the abdomen, thighs, and back. It is a perennially high-demand cosmetic surgery and pairs well with other treatments to ensure optimal results.

Tummy Tuck

When pregnancy or weight fluctuations wreak havoc on your abdomen, crunches and planks alone might not be enough to get you the flat belly you desire. A tummy tuck can eliminate excess skin and fat while reinforcing the abdominal wall. For less severe cases, a mini tummy tuck might be the best option for a taut, sleek midsection.

Brazilian Butt Lift

If your backside doesn’t have the shape or elevation to fit perfectly in that bikini bottom, a Brazilian butt lift can help. Enjoying a curvaceous derriere like Beyoncé or Jennifer Lopez is now possible with this popular plastic surgery. Also known as fat transfer, it adds shape to your bottom with natural fat tissue from your body.

Thigh Lift

This advanced cosmetic surgery tightens flabby, loose skin on the outer and inner thigh. A thigh lift reshapes the thigh area to deliver a defined, shapely result. Dr. Sajjadian customizes the operation to your specific cosmetic concerns and aesthetic goals.

Arm Lift

After significant weight loss or hormonal changes, the upper arms may develop loose, flabby skin. An arm lift can restore youthful arm contours, creating an appealing look when you wear bathing suits, spaghetti straps, or sleeveless blouses.

Non-surgical MedSpa Treatments

Dr. Sajjadian also offers non-surgical MedSpa treatments to get your body ready for the summer. These include procedures to tighten skin and reduce cellulite. They can also restore facial beauty by resolving wrinkles, folds, and lines.

Restore facial beauty to go with that slender figure with the neuromodulator BOTOX. Working by temporarily inhibiting contractions in facial expression muscles, this popular cosmetic injectable resolves dynamic wrinkles and lines on the forehead, brow, and around the eyes without downtime or recovery.

Dermal Fillers

Show the world you age gracefully with the help of our wide range of dermal fillers to help you look your best. These non-surgical procedures refresh and rejuvenate one’s facial appearance with natural results by filling voids and restoring facial volume.

Neck Contouring

A neck lift is designed to restore a sleek, elegant neckline to perfectly frame your facial beauty. It resolves neckbands, turkey waddle, and loose skin. It can also eliminate submental fat to address a double chin.

Profound RF

Cellulite, fine lines, and wrinkles are among the most common cosmetic concerns for women trying to show off their bodies. Profound RF has been clinically proven to create younger, smoother skin and makes an excellent cellulite reduction therapy.

InMode Laser

Trying to avoid incisions and scarring when body contouring? InMode Laser offers a suite of non-surgical treatments that deliver noticeable results. These non-invasive body treatments reduce dimpled skin, improve cellulite appearance, and help slow down elasticity loss on the abdomen, hips, thighs, and love handles.

Hair Removal

If unwanted hair is a problem, our advanced hair removal treatment can get to the root – quite literally. Our hair removal technology makes for a convenient and quick hair removal therapy, with diode laser beams targeting unwanted hair follicles to destroy them for good.

Vein Therapy

Aging, pregnancy, and genetics may cause unwanted pigmentation and veins on the legs, feet, and face. Though spider and varicose veins cause cosmetic troubles, they can also be the source of circulatory issues and discomfort. Dr. Sajjadian is one of the few plastic surgeons in Orange County and Newport Beach who employs Photoderm facial and leg vein therapy treatment.

When Can I Get Implants After Breast Reduction Surgery?

For many women, reducing the size of their breasts is a life-changing event. Their wardrobe choices expand beyond what’s comfortable to what’s fashionable. They tend to stand straighter and walk with more confidence without neck or back pain. They can participate in sports and other activities without fear of repetitive stress injuries. And they will see less chance of attaining stretch marks later on in life.

A breast reduction removes glandular fat, tissue, and skin to deliver proportionate breasts and bring the bust area into balance with the rest of the body. Breasts become shapelier and easier to carry around.

Some women choose to have implants after a breast reduction. Read on to learn more about breast reduction surgery, breast augmentation surgery, and how the two can be combined.

Breast Reduction

A breast reduction is used to remove excess fat, tissue, and skin for women with significantly large breasts. It is basically the same surgery as the breast lift. Many choose to have a breast reduction to ease discomfort and achieve a breast size in harmony with the rest of their body. It may also help boost self-image and the ability to participate in physical activities.

If you’re considering breast reduction surgery, we invite you to consult with Dr. Sajjadian. It’s essential to realize what a breast reduction entails — including possible risks and complications — and what the procedure can and cannot do.

A successful breast reduction relieves discomfort and numbness in your neck, upper back, and shoulders. It may also increase your capacity to participate in physical activities and boost your self-image.

Although you’ll see immediate results, remember it can take months for swelling to abate and any surgical scars to fade. Benefits are generally permanent — although breast size and shape can change due to aging and weight loss or gain.

Different Breast Reduction Techniques

Breast reduction surgery offers different techniques to achieve optimal results. Dr. Sajjadian will use one of the following approaches:

  • Keyhole-shaped Incision: removes glandular chest tissue and fat through a small incision placed under the nipples’ areolas. This process is minimally invasive and avoids a long horizontal scar.
  • Anchor-shaped incisions: are made circumferentially around both areolas, extending down to the breast crease, then horizontally along the crease.
  • Donut-shaped Incision: An incision is made around the deep-pigmented areola only.
  • Crescent-shaped Incision: An incision is made on the top part of the areola.

Through the dedicated incision, Dr. Sajjadian removes excess skin and reposition the nipple and areola to a higher position on the breast. He can reduce areola size if necessary.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the more requested plastic surgeries in the United States, especially around the beaches of Southern California. Many women in Newport Beach and beyond seek out the expertise breast augmentation surgeon Dr. Ali Sajjadian, a double board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in breast implant procedures.

Breast augmentation involves placing silicone or saline implants to improve your body outline and contours.  Breast augmentation is one of the most popular elective surgeries because it addresses these major concerns:

  • Breast volume
  • Breast size
  • Breast symmetry
  • Breast shape

Breast augmentation with Dr. Sajjadian can be positively life-changing. Restoring youthful appearance, correcting physical abnormalities, or increasing size make many patients feel better about themselves.

Does Subtracting Then Adding Make Sense?

Although it may seem counterintuitive to remove breast tissue and then add implants for volume, studies indicate that inserting implants with proper technique results in better shape, fewer scars, and more predictable results. Breast reduction surgery has one of the highest patient satisfaction rates in all cosmetic surgery. Still, some women want further improvement after reducing their oversized breasts.

With many reduction surgeries, the upper part of the breast is often hollow after a year or so.  The use of implants is to produce the upper pole fullness that many women desire. Using a reduction will decrease the chance of natural breast tissue from falling again.

Once both surgeries are complete, we find our patients right where they want to be with their breast size, shape, and location.

Can the Two Operations Be Combined?

Dr. Sajjadian usually performs these operations in a two-stage process, and here’ why. Breast reduction and breast augmentation are attempting to achieve opposing results. A breast reduction will remove a significant amount of tissue and skin to reduce size. The insertion of an implant will stretch the skin to add weight and volume.

When performing the procedures concurrently, the result may not be the best. After fat, tissue, and skin are removed and an implant inserted, the internal weight and stress will push against incision lines. This effect may cause healing difficulties, wound breakdowns, and possible infection.

What About a Breast Lift?

Another breast surgery to consider is a breast lift (mastopexy), a surgery that lifts sagging or drooping breasts after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. Breast lifts are similar to in technique to breast reduction but do not involve substantial tissue removal.

Breast lifts can:

  • lift the breasts and nipples into a higher position
  • reduce areola size
  • make the breasts appear younger and perkier
  • include the insertion of breast implants for added volume

The incision techniques used for a breast lift are very similar to a breast reduction. Ask Dr. Sajjadian if he thinks a breast lift is right for you.

Why Dr. Sajjadian

While plenty of plastic surgeons offer breast surgeries at often rock-bottom prices, skill and understanding are essential for achieving the best results from these operations. Creating a natural breast appearance requires much more than asking patients what size they would like to be. With various breast shapes, sizes, and contours, many benefits can be accomplished with any particular breast surgery.

Dr. Sajjadian takes his time to understand you and your cosmetic goals and personally create a surgical plan to achieve those results. In some cases, there may be only one area that a patient wants to be corrected. In contrast, some patients may require multiple procedures to adjust shape, size, and position.

Dr. Sajjadian is known for his compassion and skill. He understands the importance of a beautiful form to a woman’s self-esteem. He artistically augments the breast to achieve beautiful and natural-looking results.

Dr. Sajjadian would love to help you choose the right surgery or combination of procedures to help you reach your desired goals. Contact our Newport Beach, CA surgical center at 949-515-0550 today to schedule your consultation.

Can Fat Transfer Compensate for Breast Implant Removal?

Every relationship eventually comes to an end. If you’ve loved your breast implants, but find they are no longer what you want for your breasts, we can help you remove them. Contact Dr. Sajjadian to explore your options for breast implant removal in Newport Beach, CA. Let us help you break up with your breast implants.

Breast Implant Evolution

For over 50 years, breast implants have gone hand in hand with breast enhancement. For a long time, the trend was large, round, and obvious implants. The rapidly growing demand high demand for safe, high-quality implants led manufacturers to develop increasingly durable and resistant models. Patients also wanted implants with a more natural look.

As time went on, implant surgery refined itself, and with new implants on the market, the options of choice in size and shape became nearly endless. All of these factors, and more, led breast augmentation to become one of the safest, successful, and number one most popular plastic surgeries in the US.

In 2018 alone, over 300,000 women chose to augment their breasts with cosmetic surgery.

Changing implant options means that women have more opportunities than ever to create their ideal breasts. Big, small, or in between, we can help you find implants that create beautiful curves. And if the time should ever come that you no longer want breast implants, we can help you with the removal process too.

Whatever your reasons for considering breast implant removal, our team will guide you through the process, helping you to find the best available options for enhancing your shape and reshaping the breasts.

Fat Grafting for Breast Implant Removal

Removing breast implants can cause some aesthetic changes. Think of it as a balloon. When it is inflated, it appears full and rounded. When the balloon pops, it is stretched out and deflated. Removing breast implants can lead to a saggy and deflated breast appearance. Working with a highly-skilled plastic surgeon can mitigate the effects of breast implant removal.

In recent years, expert surgeons across the country have been developing a new technique to help compensate for the potentially unwanted aesthetic effects of removing breast implants. Using a procedure known as fat transfer (or lipoaugmentation) after removing implants, Dr. Sajjadian offers patients the chance to refine their breast contour using fat, extracted from their own body. This fat provides a natural look and feel as it replaces breast volume lost after implant removal.

This is a perfect option if you are interested in removing your implants but are worried about losing volume and shapeliness.

Dr. Sajjadian is one of the few double-board certified plastic surgeons to offer this highly specialized procedure in the United States. He is a highly skilled and sought after plastic surgeon with extensive breast surgery experience, including breast revision surgery

Read on to learn more about the particulars of fat transfer after breast implant removal to see if this option is right for you. If you would like a personal consultation, feel free to call our Newport Beach, CA, office at 949-515-0550 today.

The Potential Consequences of Breast Implant Removal

How will implant removal affect your breasts? Many factors play a role including:

  • Length of time since you received implants
  • Age
  • Size and shape of the breast implants
  • Skin quality
  • Natural breast size

The most apparent consequence of breast implant removal is the significant and sudden loss of volume the implant provided. Beneath the surface, however, your tissues will also be working to adapt and “shrink” to the smaller volume.

A general rule of thumb is: the larger the implant was, the more likely you are to experience aesthetic complications after removal.

Patients with smaller implants and good tissue quality tend to adapt without any problems or the need for further treatments or procedures.

However, for patients with considerable breast augmentation or with tissue that is lacking the necessary elasticity, surgical intervention may be needed to restore breast appearance.

Dr. Sajjadian for Your Breast Implant Removal

Removing breast implants can be complicated, but don’t worry, Dr. Sajjadian can help. Patients who require further treatments to maintain the appearance of the breasts after implant removal have two general options. The first option is mastopexy (also known as a breast lift). This procedure works wonders to reposition the breasts and eliminate excess skin or sagginess. Additional scarring can occur due to the incisions needed to reshape the breasts and remove excess skin.

The second option, a relative newcomer on the plastic surgery scene, is the use of fat transfer to help retain shape, feel, and contour of the breasts after implant removal. Here’s what makes this procedure one of the most promising options for restoring the breast contours after breast implants.

The Benefits of Fat Transfer After Implant Removal

Fat transfer (sometimes called lipoaugmentation or lipofilling) offers many benefits to patients. As one of the most reliable means of compensating for the volume loss after breast implant removal, more and more patients are turning to this breakthrough treatment to beautify and reshape their breasts.

Fat transfer is particularly convenient, as it is completed during the same surgery as implant removal. During your surgery after the implants are withdrawn, Dr. Sajjadian will insert fat grafts throughout the mammary gland. This provides immediately beneficial results and considerably lowers volume loss.

Also, by foregoing the need for a breast lift, fat transfer requires no additional incisions or scars. If there is any scarring, it will be considerably less than the vertical or T scars characteristic of other procedures that compensate for volume loss.

As the fillers used in lipoaugmentation are always fat-based, you get the benefits of having natural feeling and looking breasts enhanced by your body’s own tissue. Additionally, lipoaugmentation provides a new frame around the gland, improving the aesthetic result.

In some cases, if a patient wishes for a more significant increase in volume, a second grafting procedure may be necessary. After the body heals from surgery, we can schedule a second procedure to add additional fat into the breasts.

To be a good candidate for this procedure, you need to have adequate fat available. Most patients have plenty, but if you are very thin, we may need to discuss other options.

Performing fat grafts after breast implant removal is a highly specialized surgical technique requiring considerable knowledge and expertise on the breasts’ anatomy. Dr. Sajjadian has all the necessary skills, experience, and training as well as double-board certification to mold your breasts and achieve desired results you will love.

What Recent Studies are Saying

Several recent studies have lauded the benefits and possibilities of embracing fat transfer to compensate for the effects of breast implant removal. The Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a team led by internationally renowned professor of surgery Dietrich Doll have found promising results in clinical studies of this procedure.

Both studies began with surgeons looking to report on new ways to offer patients alternatives to the negatively perceived consequences of implant removal. For many women, one of the studies stated, “patients [would] rather bear the consequences of severe fibrosis than to have their implants removed.”

What both studies found, however, was that patients who underwent fat transfer had “good to excellent results” and “high satisfaction” with their outcomes.

The conclusions of these studies found that fat transfer “…provide[s] a favorable aesthetic outcome in women seeking implant removal.”

If you’re considering implant removal, this is an important option to consider. Come in for a consultation and explore the possibilities of fat transfer with Dr. Sajjadian.

What Is Recovery Like?

After surgery, you will most likely experience some bruising near the liposuction area, though this goes away in 7-10 days.

The rest of the recovery process can vary considerably based on your unique case. Dr. Sajjadian will discuss the full treatment and recovery plan with you during your consultation. However, most patients can assume the process will look something like this general guide:

  • Two to fourteen days after surgery you can return to work
  • Seven to fourteen days after surgery dressings are removed
  • Four to six weeks after surgery you can swim
  • Four to twelve weeks after surgery you may resume regular exercise and rigorous activity
  • In some cases Dr. Sajjadian has patients wear a compression garment for one to two weeks
  • Full recovery takes six to twelve weeks

Reasons for Implant Removal

Many of our breast implant removal patients have loved their breast implants. They enjoyed having a fuller, more shapely breast appearance for many years. However, lifestyles and aesthetic desires change. At some point, the breast implants were no longer enhancing their lives.

For many of our patients, their lifestyles have changed since they got their implants and the size and possibly cumbersome nature of large breasts no longer fit in. They may desire a more active lifestyle, one where breast implants don’t fit in.

Some women now want a more natural-looking breast appearance. Social tastes have changed significantly in the last several decades and many women now want a smaller, more subtle augmentation result.

Implant complications are another reason for removal. Some women have experienced a medical change, an implant leak or deflation, or other condition. Often these issues can be corrected through breast revision surgery, but some women desire to remove their implants altogether.

Whatever your reasons, we’re here to provide expert guidance so you can decide if implant replacement or removal is your best option.

Breast Augmentation and the Athlete: What Women Need to Know

Living an active lifestyle often means smaller breasts. Physical activity reduces body fat, and women don’t get to choose which areas lose fat. The belly and the breasts are both affected equally by fat reduction. Breasts are largely comprised of fatty tissue and lowered fat levels means smaller breasts. Many female athletes turn to breast augmentation to increase cup size and create a full, shapely breast appearance.

Breast augmentation is a highly effective option for increasing the breast size of female athletes. However, an active lifestyle does create a few complications for successful breast augmentation surgery. Choose a breast surgeon that has worked extensively with active patients and that knows how to successfully navigate the challenges of low body fat, high activity levels, and frequently used pectoral muscles in breast augmentation.

Breast Implant Size and Athletes

Ask any woman with large breasts and she’ll tell you that exercise isn’t always easy. A recent study found a direct correlation between breast size and activity levels. The larger a woman’s breasts were, the less likely she was to exercise. This is understandable. Breasts can make exercise difficult, especially high movement exercises like running.

If exercise and an active lifestyle are important to you, we’ll need to choose breast implant size carefully. You’ll want implants that are large enough to make an impact, but not so large that they interfere with your favorite sports and activities. We find that small to moderately sized implants provide feminine and attractive curves for our patients with an athletic build.

Another breast implant size consideration is coverage. To create the naturally looking breast augmentation results he’s known for, Dr. Sajjadian uses natural breast tissue to cover breast implants. Your natural tissues help to ensure that your implants feel natural once inside of the breast. These tissues also cover the implant, blurring the lines between natural breast and implant.

When there is little natural breast tissue, it can be difficult to cover a larger size implant. Techniques like fat grafting and submuscular placement can help to camouflage and hide implants on patients with less natural breast tissue.

Over or Under the Pectoral Muscle?

The pectoral muscles are frequently used in sports and athletic activities, in everything from running to weight lifting. The pectoral muscle also plays an important role in breast augmentation. Each breast implant is placed either over or under the pectoral muscle. Each placement option offers benefits that we’ll discuss in depth during your consultation. For athletes, Dr. Sajjadian often recommends that breast implants be placed over the pectoral muscle, in a type of implant placement called sub glandular placement.

Placing the breast implant over the chest muscle reduces downtime and allows many patients to return to physical activity and exercise sooner. Additionally, an implant placed under the pectoral muscle may distort when the chest muscles are flexed.

How Quickly Can I Return to Exercise After Breast Augmentation?

The recovery process is one of the most difficult parts of breast augmentation for many of our patients. Sitting around and waiting to recover is a challenge for those with an active lifestyle. Recovery progresses quickly after breast augmentation, and you’ll be back to running, lifting, hiking, and swimming soon. Give your body time to heal, and skip the gym until you’ve received the all-clear from Dr. Sajjadian.

Lifting, straining, and vigorous exercise should be avoided throughout the recovery process. Most patients can return to work in about two weeks. Exercise takes longer. Plan on skipping out on strenuous exercises for at least six weeks after surgery. You need time to heal after breast augmentation.

A lack of body fat means a lack of breasts for many of our athletic patients. Keep the muscle tone and create feminine, full breasts with breast augmentation surgery. Call our Newport Beach plastic surgery office at 949-515-0550 to schedule your breast surgery consultation with Dr. Sajjadian.

He is one of only a few plastic surgeons to carry board-certification from three medical boards. Call us to schedule your cosmetic breast surgery consultation in Newport Beach, CA today.

Breast Augmentation: You’ve Got Options

To achieve natural-looking breast augmentation results on women of every shape and size, customization is key. Your BFF may be able to rock size 38 D breasts, but if you’re smaller or shorter, breasts of this size may be too large. Your height, weight, chest size, quantity of natural breast tissue, personal preferences, and lifestyle all play a role in determining your ideal breast appearance. Dr. Sajjadian spends time with each patient, carefully examining them and communicating to understand preferences, goals, and lifestyle so he can craft their ideal breasts in the operating room. His skill as a double board-certified plastic surgeon is invaluable in ensuring natural looking and beautiful results for every patient.

What are your options for breast augmentation? During your consultation, we’ll start creating your customized surgical plan as we review the many options available. Dr. Sajjadian will explain the benefits and difficulties associated with each option. If there is a strong benefit to one option over another, Dr. Sajjadian will share recommendations and explain why a certain technique or implant type will be most effective. You’ve got lots of options, but our experienced team will guide you through them. Call us to schedule your consultation to create your customized breast surgery plan.

Before your consultation, spend some time visualizing your ideal breasts. Do you want lots of cleavage or a little? Big, small, or just right breasts? We love it when patients bring photos with them to their consultation. Remember, there are many options, but some will need to work with the anatomy you’ve already got. There may be some limitation to what we can achieve, but most women are absolutely delighted with the natural-looking breast augmentation results Dr. Sajjadian creates.

Breast Implant Type

Breast implants are available in three different types: saline, silicone gel, and form-stable (gummy bear) implants. Dr. Sajjadian uses all three types for natural looking breast augmentation. Due to safety concerns and the possible risks involved, Dr. Sajjadian does not use textured breast implants. Our smooth silicone gel implants have proven to be safe with no known risks using data from a 10-year study on implants.

  • Saline Breast Implants – Saline implants offer the unique advantage of unfilled placement. The silicone shell of the implant is placed into the breast unfilled. Once it is in place, the implant is carefully filled with a sterile saline solution. This allows for a smaller insertion incision. Saline breast implants are also FDA approved for use on younger women, 18+ compared to 22+ for silicone options. Saline breast implants are generally the most affordable breast implant option, averaging about 25% less than similarly sized silicone options.
  • Silicone Gel Implants – Silicone gel implants are the most popular breast implant option. The soft, smooth gel feels very much like natural breast tissue. These implants offer a softer feel than a saline implant, especially in women with less natural breast tissue for coverage. Modern silicone implants are sturdy, long lasting, and designed to last for many years.
  • Cohesive Gel Implants – The newest type of breast implant available is best known by its nickname, the “gummy bear implant.” These implants are a type of form stable breast implant, created using a thick, cohesive silicone gel shell. The durable shell of these implants offers superior shape retention and protection against leakage and ruptures. Cohesive gel implants are a popular option for natural looking breast augmentation as they have a tapered shape, thinner at the top with more projection at the bottom, mimicking natural breast shape.

Saline, silicone, and form-stable implants are all excellent options for breast augmentation surgery, each with unique benefits that we’ll discuss during your plastic surgery consultation.

Breast Implant Shape

Implants come in both round and shaped options. The shape of the implant helps to create the final shape of the breast. Both options can create a natural looking result when used properly and by a skilled plastic surgeon.

  • Round- Outside of the breast, a round breast implant looks similar in shape to a jelly donut. They are perfectly symmetrical and round, with a flattened middle. Round implants are available in both saline and silicone implant types. Round is the most common implant shape and creates a very natural looking result, both when standing and lying down. The saline or silicone inside of a round implant settles when standing, creating a natural breast shape that is wider at the bottom, thinner at the top.
  • Shaped or Anatomical Implants- Shaped breast implants are modeled after the natural breast shape. They are flatter and thinner at the top, with a fuller bottom. Shaped implants are a popular choice for the natural looking breast shape they create. Implant rotation is a risk with a shaped implant, but using textured implants and special implantation techniques can reduce the odds of this occurring. Shaped implants are also called anatomical breast implants or teardrop implants.

Implant Size

Breast implants are generally measured in CCs, a form of measurement that is very common in medical settings, but unfamiliar to many of our patients. CC is short for cubic centimeter and is a measurement of volume. If you’re more familiar with ounces, you can convert CCs to ounces by dividing by 29.5.

We recommend that you forget about CCs and cup size completely. Focus instead on the look you hope to achieve from your cosmetic breast surgery. Look at pictures of celebrities and friends, bringing us photos of your ideal breast size. The rice test can also be helpful. Fill the boot section of a pair of pantyhose with measured rice. Place in a sports bra and take your new look for a test drive. Add or subtract rice until you find your desired size. Take notes throughout the testing process, and bring them along to your consultation.

Size matters, but numbers don’t. We’ll help you create a look you love with appropriately size breast implants for a natural look.

As you prepare for your breast augmentation, we bet you’ll start noticing breasts. Pay attention to the many shapes and sizes of female breasts. Two women with identically sized breasts can have a dramatically different breast appearance, largely due to projection, or how far the breasts extend from the chest wall.

Think for a minute about an 8 oz. cup of water. You could pour the water into a short, wide vessel or a tall and thin one. The quantity of water doesn’t change, but its appearance certainly does. The same is true for implant projection. By modifying the size of the base of the implant, and how far the implant will extend off of the chest wall, we can create your ideal breast shape.

We offer low, moderate, and high projection implants, in every type, size, and shape of the breast implant we offer. Generally, high projection implants offer the fullest, roundest, and most noticeable results. Our natural looking breast augmentation patients generally prefer a moderate projection implant. Some women with a wide chest will benefit from a low profile implant.

Breast Implant Placement

Breast implants are placed inside of the breast, either over or under the pectoral muscle. Generally, a submuscular placement offers a more natural looking result. The muscle helps to cover and hide the implant, smoothing edges and reducing the odds of implant rippling.

Subglandular implant placement, or placement over the pectoral muscle, may yield a more natural looking result in patients that frequently lift heavy weights. With sufficient natural breast tissue, good results are possible with both placement options.

Breast implants are inserted into the breast through a small, carefully hidden incision. There are four primary options for incision placement. Dr. Sajjadian is experienced using all of the major breast implant incision options.

  • Peri-areolar- The peri-areolar incision is made around the outer edge of the areola, along with the line where darker areola and breast skin meet. Scarring fades to invisibility along the color transition, and most patients notice minimal scarring after they’ve healed.
  • Trans-axillary- The trans-axillary incision is placed under the arm, in the armpit. It leaves no breast scarring and a small incision that is unseen unless the arms are lifted. The trans-axillary incision can be used only once, so if revision surgery is needed, a new incision site must be selected.
  • Inframammary- The inframammary incision is the most popular breast augmentation incision by far. It is placed under the breast, in the fold where the breast meets the chest wall. This incision provides optimal access to the breast and muscle tissues for a very natural looking breast augmentation result. After surgery, the incision is hidden by the overhang of the breast and is practically unnoticeable on most patients.
  • TUBA- The TUBA technique for breast augmentation is very delicate and complex. Many surgeons do not have the experience necessary to offer this specialized and advanced technique. Dr. Sajjadian is one of only a few Southern California plastic surgeons to offer TUBA breast augmentation. TUBA is short for trans-umbilical breast augmentation. The incision is placed in the belly button, and an unfilled saline implant travels up from the abdomen into the breast, guided by an endoscope. Once it is in place, the implant is filled. This option leaves no breast scarring but is very time-consuming.

Each incision type offers benefits that we’ll discuss in depth during your consultation.

Complementary Procedures: Breast Lift for Sagging Breasts

Women with sagging breasts may benefit from a breast lift, performed at the same time as their breast augmentation. By combining these two procedures, we can treat moderate and severe breast sagging, while simultaneously enhancing breast size. Breast augmentation + breast lift is often performed after pregnancy, as part of our mommy makeover.

If sagging is present, a lift helps to ensure a good result from breast implants. Although an implant does eliminate a little sag by adding more volume, it doesn’t tighten skin. This leads to a saggy, deflated breast, even with implants. Combining a breast lift with implants ensures a good aesthetic result.

These two procedures are frequently combined and do not increase risk or recovery times significantly.

Breast Implant Revision

For women who have already undergone a breast augmentation procedure with another plastic surgeon but are dissatisfied with the size or placement of their old implants, Dr. Sajjadian offers breast implant removal and replacement procedures. Dr. Sajjadian will work with you to address whatever your concerns are about their appearance and any discomfort you might have that might not have been addressed during your previous procedure.

Dr. Sajjadian is a multi-awarded, double board certified plastic surgeon with extensive knowledge and expertise of advanced techniques in aesthetic procedures for the face, nose, body, and breast.

If you are dissatisfied with the look of your breasts, or have had a previous breast augmentation procedure but have never been completely satisfied with the results, Dr. Sajjadian will work with you to understand your preferences and unique goals so you can achieve the ideal figure you’ve always wanted.

Breast Implant Decisions: Material, Incisions, Placement, Size

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Choosing to enhance your shape with breast implants is only the first decision you’ll make as you prepare for breast surgery. Dr. Sajjadian customizes each breast procedure, working with his patients to create natural looking results that complement anatomy and meet aesthetic goals. This customized approach to breast augmentation surgery requires careful coordination between plastic surgeon and patient, and a lot of decision making. We’ll guide you through the process, offering tips and advice, so your new breasts are your dream breasts.

As one of Southern California’s most respected and sought-after plastic surgeons, Dr. Sajjadian has helped countless women through the breast augmentation process. He holds double-board certification and has dedicated his career to perfecting the art of breast and facial surgery. Dr. Sajjadian has the experience and surgical expertise to help patients make these crucial breast augmentation decisions.

Material- Saline or Silicone?

Modern-day breast implants typically fall into one of two categories: saline or silicone. Dr. Sajjadian uses both of these breast implant types to craft stunning breast augmentation results for his patients. Breast implants are used to increase breast size, to enhance breast shape and fullness, to correct asymmetry, and to restore the breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Both implant types can be used successfully for any of these purposes.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants feature a plastic outer shell that is filled with a medical-grade, sterilized salt water solution. Saline breast implants are FDA-approved for use on women that are 18+.

Saline implants offer several benefits including:

  • Lower Price Point- Saline implants are typically 25% less than similarly sized silicone implants.
  • Smaller Incision Size- Saline breast implants are placed into the breast unfilled. A deflated implant is much smaller than a filled one and incision size is considerably smaller with this implant type. This implant type also offers increased flexibility in incision types since it is placed into position unfilled.
  • Easy Rupture Detection- Saline implants deflate when they are ruptured. The saline solution is safely absorbed and expelled by the body. Saline is non-toxic.

Saline implants have a few downsides too. Some women find they feel a little too firm, not like natural breast tissue. This entirely depends on anatomy and preference. Saline implants are also more prone to wrinkling after extended use.

Silicone Breast Implants

There are two different types of silicone implants: silicone gel implants and form-stable implants, also known as gummy bear implants. Each type offers distinct benefits, so we’ll discuss them separately.

Silicone Gel Breast Implants

Silicone gel implants are our most popular option for breast augmentation. They are FDA-approved for use on women aged 22+. Our favorite benefits of these implants are:

  • A Soft and Natural Feel- Give your breast a quick squeeze. Now you know what a silicone implant feels like. These implants feel soft and natural, even outside of the breast.
  • Less Likely to Ripple- Silicone filled breast implants are less likely to ripple than their saline counterparts.

We recommend that patients with silicone implants receive regular checks to look for leaks for ruptures as the implant will not deflate if it is compromised. Another downside of silicone implants is the need for a larger incision and the increased risk of scarring.

Cohesive Silicone Implants

Gummy bear breast implants, also known as cohesive silicone implants or form stable implants, have a texture that is very similar to a gummy bear. Their advantages include:

  • Excellent Shape Holding- These breast implants hold their shape very well. They do not ripple.
  • Less Likely to Break- Form stable breast implants are filled with a thick, cohesive filling. They hold their shape, even if they rupture and are not likely to leak.
  • Natural Shape- The unique texture of these implants allows for a very natural implant shape. These implants are tapered, projected on the bottom and slimmed at the top. Many women love the beautiful breast shape that these implants create.

They are a firmer feeling implant, unnoticeable if they are well covered with natural breast tissue. Cohesive implants also require a larger incision with an increased risk of scarring.

Rest assured that whatever implant material you choose, all breast implants we offer are carefully selected for their safety. Saline, silicone, and cohesive silicone implants are all FDA-approved. Dr. Sajjadian uses all three types regularly, achieving some of the best breast augmentation results in Newport Beach, CA.

There are four primary options for breast implant incisions: trans-axillary, peri-areolar, inframammary, and TUBA. The best incision type for you will depend on your anatomy, the size and type of breast implants that you intend to receive, and your goals for the procedure. Dr. Sajjadian understands that this is a complex choice and will carefully explain your options, along with offering his recommendations for your incision placement.

  • Trans-axillary- Trans-axillary breast augmentation incisions are placed in the armpit. This ensures no scarring on the breast. This incision can only be used one time, so if revision surgery is needed, a new incision will need to be made. Some patients dislike the visible scar that remains in the armpit after surgery.
  • Peri-areolar- The peri-areolar incision is made around the areola, right along the color transition. This hides scars and makes them practically unnoticeable for most women. The peri-areolar incision does limit the size, type, and shape of implant that can be used and may not be advisable for women with small areola or large implants. This incision provides good access to the breast for your plastic surgeon.
  • Inframammary- The inframammary incision is placed under the breast, in the crease where the breast meets the chest wall. It is well hidden by the overhang of the breast and is unnoticeable for most women after it has healed. This incision provides Dr. Sajjadian with the best possible access to the breast tissues. This is the most popular breast augmentation incision by far.
  • TUBA- The TUBA breast augmentation technique, also known as trans-umbilical breast augmentation, places the incision inside of the belly button. Using an endoscope, the breast implant is then carefully moved from the abdomen up into the breast area. Only saline implants are used with this technique. They are inserted deflated and filled after they are in position. The TUBA approach creates no breast scarring but is very complex and time-consuming. Only a few plastic surgeons in Southern California offer this specialized and advanced breast augmentation technique.

Dr. Sajjadian is very familiar and experienced using all four of these techniques. Many surgeons offer only one or two options for breast incision placement, but Dr. Sajjadian’s exemplary surgical skills allow him to provide his patients with more options and more treatment flexibility.

Breast implants can be placed over or under the pectoral muscle. Typically, a sub-muscular placement is preferred as it offers a more natural looking result, easier coverage of the implant, lower risk of bottoming out and capsular contracture, and better post-augmentation mammography results. Recovery tends to be longer and more difficult after this type of breast augmentation.

Some patients will be better served by a sub-glandular patient. This placement option typically offers a shorter, easier recovery and allows for a larger implant, provided there is sufficient breast tissue to cover it. Sub-glandular placement may also be preferable in patients involved in heavy exercise or weightlifting as the implant won’t distort when the pectoral muscle is flexed, as is common with a sub-muscular placement.

For both sub-glandular and sub-muscular placements, Dr. Sajjadian creates a pocket for the breast implant. The implant is placed in the pocket during breast surgery. At first, the pocket will be tight. In time, the skin and tissues surrounding the implant will relax, and the implant will settle into position. This is a process known as “drop and fluff” and takes 3-6 months to occur after surgery. This process usually happens quicker in sub-glandular placement patients.

There is no perfect size for the female breasts. We’ve seen women with stunning breasts at every cup size. Our goal is to find a breast implant size that complements your aesthetic goals and works with your anatomy.

When choosing an implant size, we are somewhat limited by the patient’s natural anatomy. An implant must be fully covered by breast tissue for a natural look. If we use an implant that is too large, ridges or bumps may be visible at the edges of the implant. Larger implant sizes may also be difficult, or uncomfortable, for smaller patients.

Dr. Sajjadian realizes that size is only one variable in the appearance of your breasts after augmentation. By varying implant shape, projection, placement, and other factors, he can create your ideal breasts, even if there are limitations to the size of implant your body can accommodate.

How Do You Find Your Ideal Implant Size?

Before your breast augmentation consultation, spend a little time contemplating your ideal breasts. Forget about cup sizes; letters and numbers matter less than appearance. We love when patients bring celebrity photos of breasts they love as it gives us a better idea of your desired appearance. Grab those gossip magazines and start shopping for your ideal breasts!

Many patients also use an easy at home test to “try on” different breast sizes. It is called the rice test. Simply cut off and fill the boot section of a pair of pantyhose with rice. Place these rice sizers in a sports bra and try on all of your favorite clothing styles. Adjust the quantities of rice and take notes so you can share your research at your consultation with Dr. Sajjadian.
