Combining Breast Reduction with Other Procedures
Some women prefer to combine their breast reduction surgery with other plastic surgery procedures. Breast reductions are commonly performed with a mommy makeover or with a breast enhancement or tummy tuck. Other women prefer to combine their breast reduction surgery with liposuction, especially in the upper arm or upper back area to complement their new bust size. During your consultation, you should talk to Dr. Sajjadian about the results you want and if combining several different procedures is the right decision for you.
Preparing for Breast Reduction
Dr. Sajjadian will evaluate you as a candidate for breast reduction during a consultation. He will examine your breasts and ask you about any pain (physical or emotional) that your large breasts cause you. He will also ask you about your desired breast size and shape. Based on this information, he will draw up a surgical plan that takes into account your personal needs and goals. Dr. Sajjadian will explain the surgery in detail and go over what to expect during and after the procedure.
To prepare for your surgery, Dr. Sajjadian will provide detailed instructions. These will include avoiding aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption and generally following healthy lifestyle habits up until your day of surgery. He may also ask you to get a pre-operative mammogram. If you have questions about any of the pre-operative instructions, we would be happy to answer them.
Day of Surgery: What to Expect
Breast reduction in Newport Beach is performed on an outpatient basis under anesthesia. You will not feel anything during the surgery, which takes one to two hours on average.
Dr. Sajjadian will make the surgical incisions encircling the areola and nipple. Through the incisions, he will remove excess breast tissue and skin; he may leave the nipples in position or move them higher on the breast. When Dr. Sajjadian is finished making the surgical modifications, he will close the incisions with sutures and bandage the breasts. He will place a support garment around the breasts to help them heal.
Common Breast Reduction Incisions
To complete your procedure, Dr. Sajjadian can place any of the following incisions. The treatment method recommended to meet your goals will depend on the amount of breast tissue to be removed and whether the nipple will need to be reduced or repositioned as well.
The Anchor Method
This approach involves an incision placed at the natural crease under the breasts.
A Keyhole Incision
Dr. Sajjadian will make an incision that starts at the areola and moves downward, vertically, toward the breast crease.
Circle Incision
An incision is made around the circumference of the areola. When healed, the scar looks quite faint and is hidden in the pigmented tissue of the nipple.
What to Expect During Breast Reduction Recovery
You will be released to go home shortly after your procedure. During the first few days of your recovery, your breasts may be sore, swollen, tender or numb; these side effects will subside over time. You should rest as much as possible, avoiding any bending, lifting or straining. Gentle walking is encouraged. Dr. Sajjadian will schedule several follow-up visits to check your healing progress and advise when it is safe to return to work, school, exercise and your normal routine.
Everyone heals at a different pace. It’s important to listen to your body and not push yourself to return to work or school until you’re ready.

Breast Reduction in Orange County, CA FAQs
The cost of breast reduction surgery is based on several factors, and will be discussed during your personal consultation with Dr. Sajjadian. If you’re interested, we can also explain the available financing options.
Right after your appointment, you’ll notice that your breasts feel smaller and there is less strain placed on your neck and back. However, it does take time for swelling to fade and to comfortably wear regular undergarments.
On average, recovery after breast reduction takes about two to three weeks. Most patients can return to work after two weeks and resume their full level of activity after six weeks. If you participate in vigorous exercise, especially movements that involve raising your arms over your head, it’s best to avoid this until a full six weeks post-procedure.
You should also be able to resume wearing a bra after two weeks with no pain or discomfort. If you still have pain or discomfort when wearing undergarments after two weeks, you should talk to the staff at our office. We usually advise those who have recovered from breast reduction surgery to go to a high-quality undergarments retailer and be re-measured, so they can purchase the right size of quality undergarments for their new bust size.
Swelling and residual bruising can persist outside of this recovery window, however. This is normal and will resolve over the course of the following months. Post-surgical swelling is usually the last side-effect to minimize and does so gradually as your body heals.
It’s vital that you choose a knowledgeable, compassionate plastic surgeon to perform your breast reduction surgery. The right surgeon will provide a full consultation and take the time to answer all of your questions and address all of your concerns. You should feel comfortable asking the plastic surgeon any question regarding the surgery and should never feel rushed or judged during your consultation.
You should also ensure you choose a surgeon who is educated and has experience performing breast reduction surgeries. If you have decided you want to explore the idea of having multiple procedures performed at once, you should also ensure that the surgeon you choose has experience in performing multiple types of plastic surgeries.
Though you will not be required to stay overnight in a hospital or at the surgeon’s medical office after your breast reduction surgery, you should still choose a surgeon that is relatively close to where you live as you will be required to come in for at least one consultation and several follow-up visits.
