What does young look like to you? Many of our Orange County plastic surgery clients don’t come in asking for a full overhaul. Most simply come in asking for a specific procedure to make them look younger. There are usually areas that they just want a plastic surgeon to “touch up” before “aging” takes over.
For the relatively young, the focus is often on the lines that go from the side of the nose to the corners of the lips (also known as the nasolabial folds or parentheses). The lips also are a topic of discussion as they tend to get thinner with age. As the age increases most clients start to focus on the jawline and neck
An important question every great plastic surgeon should ask of their clients is “Do you want to look better to yourself or to others?” It is important to know the answer because other people focus on different parts of your face than you do. Ask yourself, “How do others see me?” If you want to look younger to others, consider how another person ‘sees’ things. A fascinating study tracking eye movements of a person as they scan a face recorded several back and forth movements from one eye to the other, then a few sweeps from one eye to the other eye to the nose and back to the eye, then back to the eyes, and finally a single scan to the entire contour of the face.
Think about how you look at other people when you’re talking or listening to someone. Most people look at the other persons eyes most of the time because eye contact assists in picking up on cues about emotions while communicating. So, the signs of ageing that most people will likely notice is going to be around the eyes. People rarely focus on the mouth, nasolabial folds, jawline, or any of the things most people go to a plastic surgeon about. Interestingly enough, when people do complain about their eyes, it’s often because somebody else somebody told them “they look tired”, or asked them if they are worried or angry (furrow lines).
So if you want to look younger to others, you may want to start with the area round the eyes. Other areas that others see first are the eyes, eyelids, forehead, and upper cheeks. If you are interested in looking younger in Orange County, contact our office today.
