Plastic Surgery By Age: Which Procedures Are Most Popular?

What age is the best age for plastic surgery? Old or young, the right time simply depends on where you’re at in life. Different procedures are most popular at different ages. Whatever your age, when you’re ready for plastic surgery, see Dr. Sajjadian. As an award-winning, triple board certified plastic surgeon he has the skills and experience needed to bring you optimal results with every procedure.

The Teen Years

Plastic surgery isn’t common in the teenage crowd, but there are some good reasons for considering surgery at this age. Rhinoplasty, the most common teen procedure, is often performed after the nose reaches its full, adult size (14-15 for girls, about 17 for boys). Many teens that have been waiting for their nose to finally achieve full size undergo this surgery. In 2013, about 50% of all cosmetic surgeries performed on teens were rhinoplasties. Male breast reduction is another popular choice for teenage patients.

The 20s

Breast augmentation tops the list of most popular cosmetic surgical procedures during the years from 20-29. In 2013, more than 83,000 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the U.S. on this age group. In second place is rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, with almost 70,000 procedures. During the 20s, patients are typically most interested in accenting their natural features to look great.

The 30s

While Botox® and fillers can be used in all age groups, the 30s are a big year for Botox®, with the popularity of the procedure experiencing massive jumps from those in their 20s. More than a million Botox® injections were performed on this age group in 2013. Although signs of aging are generally quite minor at this age, early treatment goes a long way in preventing or slowing many age-related cosmetic problems.

Many women in their 30s that have finished having children opt for a mommy makeover at this age. Breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast lift surgery all appear in the top 5 most popular procedures for this demographic. Women are wanting to restore their bodies after baby and look and feel like they did before children.

The 40s and Early 50s

During the 40s and early 50s, men and women are starting to see real signs of aging and are ready to take serious action to stop the clock. Eyelid surgery (a procedure where the surgeon removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelid area) can be very rejuvenating. It is the most popular procedure for this age group and was performed on more than 90,000 patients aged 40-54 in 2013. Liposuction and breast augmentation are also popular.

When it comes to non-surgical cosmetic procedures, Botox® is a hot choice. More than 3 million Botox® procedures were performed on this age group in 2015. Soft tissue fillers, like Juvéderm® Voluma, also see a big jump in popularity (more than 1 million procedures performed yearly).

55+

After 55 the most popular plastic surgery procedure is the facelift, followed closely by the forehead lift. These procedures tighten sagging skin and muscle and can make a patient appear 10 years younger. Botox® and soft tissue fillers are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
