Are you the parent of a teen who is interested in rhinoplasty? Before you sign your child up for the procedure, keep reading for four essentials parents should know about teen rhinoplasty. If you have questions or concerns, call and schedule a consultation for you and your teen with the triple board certified Dr. Sajjadian.
Many Teens Are Ready for Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty isn’t recommended until the nose reaches its full adult size, but this typically occurs during the teen years. Females are often candidates for rhinoplasty at a slightly younger age than males. The female nose typically reaches maturity at 15-16, while the male nose does so at about 16-17. A skilled rhinoplasty surgeon like Dr. Sajjadian can determine if your teen’s nose is ready for surgery, or if it would be best to wait another year or two.
Choose the Right Surgeon
The biggest piece of advice we can give to parents who are guiding teens through the rhinoplasty process is to find the right surgeon. Rhinoplasty can be a highly successful surgery with stunning results but, in the hands of an inexperienced surgeon, it can go very wrong. Avoid the need for revision rhinoplasty, breathing problems, and other complications down the road by choosing the right surgeon.
Dr. Sajjadian is a member of The Rhinoplasty Society, holds triple board certification, and has authored over 75 book chapters, manuscripts, and abstracts on plastic surgery. He has also lectured on various techniques on a national and international level, and is widely considered to be an expert in Caucasian and ethnic rhinoplasty for both males and females. In fact, many of his patients proudly proclaim him as “The Best Rhinoplasty Surgeon”.
Set Realistic Expectations
It is very important for teens to have a realistic expectation for their rhinoplasty results. The surgery can transform the nose, but it won’t change your teen’s world. They need to learn to love themselves and realize that a new nose is only a new nose. Help your teen to understand what rhinoplasty can and can’t do.
Non-Invasive Options Are Available
For some teens, non-invasive nasal correction is a good alternative to rhinoplasty. This procedure uses dermal fillers to reshape and perfect the nose. This procedure is completely non-surgical and requires no downtime. Results are temporary, but can be maintained with regular re-treatment. This isn’t the right choice for every patient but, if you’re interested, Dr. Sajjadian can determine if this is an option for your teen.
