Brow lifts are a very popular procedure and one of our favorites here at our Newport Beach Plastic Surgery office. When we evaluate someone for brow lift surgery we first start with examining the position of the brow. There are two basic things that can determine which brow lift surgery is right for you: the height of the brow in relation to the orbital rim and the shape of the brow. If the medial brow is in good position but the lateral brow is flat to down sloping, a temporal brow lift surgery would be the best procedure to improve the aesthetics of the eye. An endoscopic brow lift or trans-blepharoplasty corrugator muscle resection are two procedures that help adjust the central portion of the eyebrows creating a more open appearance of the eyes.
For temporal brow lifts small incisions are made to lift the outside portion of the eyebrows. By doing this, we can decrease the hooding that occurs above the outside area on the upper eyelid. The temporal brow lift procedures are often combined with an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck) for our Newport Beach clients who want to optimize the look of the upper eye region. Another great benefit of the brow lift surgeries is that they can easily be done under local anesthetic in the clinic. This makes the downtime from the brow lift surgery minimal at most.
As with any plastic surgery, it is important you choose a board certified plastic surgeon to do a brow lift procedure to create natural and beautiful results. If your surgeon does not know the anatomy of the face well a facial droop can result if the facial nerve is cut when making the incision for the brow lift. Occasionally inexperienced surgeons will cheat by removing a little scalp tissue and sewing it up but even though the brow will appear higher and the skin tighter, when it relaxes the brow is right back to the position it was before. Picking a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon and just not a ‘cosmetic surgeon’ will help you avoid this issue and likely other complications.
Don’t be surprised if you bruising or get black eyes after a brow lift. These are perfectly common after the procedure and they typically will last for about 2 weeks. We always recommend to our Newport Beach clients that it’s always a good idea to make sure you have adequate time before any special event when you get plastic surgery done as swelling and healing can take at least a few weeks.
