Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift or Both?

It’s not uncommon for women come to come into our Costa Mesa office primarily interested in just a breast lift procedure. For those with a large breast, a breast lift alone often produces a cosmetically ideal breast appearance and nothing else is needed. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult to achieve optimal fullness in the upper aspect of the breasts, that area above the nipple-areola area, with a breast lift alone.

So when women interested in a breast lift procedure come to see Dr. Sajjadian for a consultation it’s vital to know how important it is to them for their breasts to have the appearance of some fullness in the upper part of the breasts or not. This fullness gives the chest an overall more youthful breast profile. For those who say yes but do not have enough natural breast tissue in the upper portion of the breast to achieve this appearance with a breast lift alone, a breast augmentation will give them the results they desire.

Other patients are primarily interested in just increasing their breast size and volume, but have significant sagging will cause a breast augmentation alone to look odd and unattractive. Breast implants placed behind sagging breasts during a breast augmentation creates a terribly unnatural appearance of breasts just dangling off of a pair of implants. As you can imagine, this aesthetically unsatisfactory and not what we want to offer our Costa Mesa breast augmentation clients. For the most youthful and attractive breasts, these women would do best with a breast lift and augmentation. This combination surgery increases breast volume while also lifting and restoring the position of the nipple-areola complex to the top of the breast mound.

Basically a breast implant is simply filler material designed to add volume to the existing breast, that’s it. Here in Costa Mesa we inform our clients that when they get just a breast augmentation, their breasts will look similar to how they do before surgery, just fuller.  However if your breasts have sagged due to pregnancy, a large amount of weight loss or age, a breast lift combined with a breast augmentation may be the best solution.

Regardless of what you hear and read, the decision should be made between you and an experienced surgeon board certified in plastic surgery. If you are considering breast augmentation and/or breast lift, and live in the Orange County/ NPB/ Costa Mesa area, contact our office today.
