Are You a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

There are several reasons why people are interested in eyelid surgery but not everyone is a good candidate for the surgery.  First and foremost, if you are interested in eyelid surgery, contact Dr. Sajjadian at his Newport Beach office for a consultation because everyone’s situation is unique and seeing you face to face is the best way to know for sure if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

Often people come to us for an eyelid surgery when they have excessive drooping and sagging of skin around eyes. This is often due to normal aging or genes that have been passed on from generation to generation. Sagging skin is often exaggerated by other conditions such allergies or edema, certain medication and connective tissue disorders.

Eyelid surgery can dramatically improve an individual’s appearance by restoring a more youthful and alert look to the face.   Even though the aging process will continue after an eyelid surgery, it can rewind time several decades back and it’s amazing how the physical appearance can affect mood and outlook.  Many of our Newport Beach blepharoplasty clients report feeling younger and more alert after eyelid surgery. Depending on your health and other factors, the results of an eyelid surgery can last as long as 10 years.

Dr. Sajjadian typically uses fat grafting or brow lift procedures to improve the overall shape of the eyes and reverse signs of aging while keeping the natural appearance.

Complications from eyelids, although rare, are more likely if you suffer from dry eye problems, thyroid disorders and diabetes.  However, keep in mind that the severity and number health problems are dealt with on an individual basis and don’t necessarily eliminate you as a candidate for blepharoplasty. Smokers unfortunately face significant obstacles when it comes to any type of surgery and are at increased risk of surgical complications because they have decreased blood supply to certain areas of the body. Smokers also heal much more slowly and are at an increased risk for infection. If you are a smoker, we typically advise you to quit smoking for at least two weeks prior to a procedure and for a period of time afterwards.

If you live in the Newport Beach area and want to know if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery, sit down with Dr. Sajjadian and let him help you find the best procedure for you. Contact our office today.
