What Is Body Contouring?

In Newport Beach and elsewhere, body contouring procedures are growing in popularity as people realize that they don’t have be stuck with the stubborn excess of sagging skin and fat that is usually left behind after major weight loss or pregnancy.  Body contouring is the surgical removal of excess sagging fat and skin that also improves the shape of the underlying support tissue and overall shape of a person’s physique. Many of our Newport Beach clients who’ve lost large amounts of weight are thrilled that body contouring surgery can help them show off their new slender body without the stretched out skin that is a constant reminder of days past.  After weight reduction surgery, or any substantial amount of weight loss, the skin and tissues underneath often lack the elasticity to shrink to the reduced body size.

Dr. Sajjadian’s body contouring procedures typically include other procedures you may be familiar with.  For example, if there is sagging around the face, jowls and neck, a facelift is the body contouring procedure for that area.  For women who have sagging, flattened breasts from breastfeeding or age a breast lift is often included with breast augmentation or done a lone.  To remove the layer of excess skin around the abdomen, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is the body contouring procedure used for that.  Body contouring procedures can also be used to lift the buttocks, groin, inner and outer things as well as the upper arms.

We’ve found in Newport Beach that in general the best candidates for body contouring procedures are adults who have stabilized their weight.  If they still have a substantial amount to lose, it would be best to wait until they’ve reached their goal weight so they won’t have any additional amount of skin to be taken off.  Healthy individuals without serious, uncontrolled medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery are also ideal patients for body contouring procedures.  If there are certain medical conditions, we can always discuss those in person and go over issues with your primary physician or specialist to make sure there won’t be any complications from the body contouring procedures.

Candidates must also be non-smokers as smoking can increase the risk of complications as well as significantly interfere with healing. Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic goals are ideal candidates because it’s important to have a good understanding of what and what not to expect from body contouring surgery.  We also encourage individuals that are committed to getting body contouring surgery to leading a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and fitness well before the surgery in order to receive optimal results and recovery.
