If you are researching plastic surgery, it’s very likely you have heard about the wonder that can be performed with a tummy tuck. But you probably don’t know much more about the life-changing procedure. Here’s what you need to know:
A tummy tuck (also known as an abdominoplasty) is a significant operation that provides the benefit of equally significant results. While the possible results are easy to see, it is important to recognize that there is a recovery process for every plastic surgery procedure, and a tummy tuck is no exception.
We want all of our Newport Beach tummy tuck patients to have a great experience from start to finish, so here’s a few tips on how to limit your discomfort after your procure.
Reducing tension on the incision will go a long way in limiting pain and the possibility for complications after a tummy tuck. Limit tension by bending at the waist as much as possible and being conscious of your movements. Spend your recovery time in a recliner-type chair and slowly work your way up to standing as much as you would have before the procedure. We will give you specific instructions on how to reduce tension on incision lines.
If you aren’t sure if an activity will put too much strain on your incision, play it safe. Your tummy tuck surgeon will outline a long-term recovery process, but let your body tell you what is safe and what is not.
As easy as it would be to become a couch potato during your recovery, it is also very important to keep moving, within reason. Moving about as much as your surgeon deems safe will ensure proper blood flow to the abdomen and a faster recovery process.
Expect to not be able to return to your normal daily activities for a few weeks and plan accordingly. In some cases, patients are back to 100 percent sooner than that, but don’t plan anything strenuous for a while to avoid unnecessary pressure to do anything that could possibly jeopardize your health and results.
