Telling Others about your Breast Enhancement Surgery

A lot of times our clients in Orange County share with us that they don’t know how to tell others about their breast enhancements.  Our families and closest friends love us but unfortunately, they may not share the same opinions about your breast enhancement as you do. Even as adults, it’s nice to have our loved ones’ approval and acceptance.  Having loved ones who tend to have judgmental opinions makes it even more difficult.

We have some clients in Orange County that are actually more scared of telling their family than of the actual procedure itself.  A lot people simply just don’t know how to go about it.  They don’t want to blatantly tell everyone, but at the same time people are likely to notice and it’s not easy to lie about something that is pretty obvious.

So whether you’re dreading the thought to talk about enhancing your body with your family or afraid that they won’t agree with your choice, we have some helpful tips on how to make it go as smoothly as possible.

  1. Have a plan: Having a plan in mind makes a huge difference.  Write down some of your thoughts and think of a couple of scenarios of how things could go.  Then plan out how you’ll handle each scenario in a good, constructive way. Being prepared takes away that element of surprise and the risk of reacting to emotions.
  2. Rationalize your fears: Once you’ve identified what the potential consequences are, next, identify which ones are real and which ones are imagined and stem from more of an emotional fear.
  3. Rehearse the scenario: It’s a good idea to at least mentally prepare a few talking points that capture the main reasons why you chose to have the breast enhancement.  For example, you can say “I’m not asking your permission but you to know because I care about you and I know you care about me.”
  4. Pick the right setting: Before you execute the plan, try to create the right environment. Set yourself up to be comfortable and avoid doing it in an environment that will cause a scene or distract you from being able to clearly present yourself.

It’s a big decision and usually an exciting one when you chose to go through with breast enhancement surgery.  We want to do whatever we can to help you make your breast enhancement go as smoothly  as possible so if there is any way we can help, please do not hesitate to contact our Orange County office with any questions or concerns regarding breast augmentation.
