Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Excellence in Body Scuplting

Tummy Tuck Newport Beach, CA

You work out religiously for the sake of your figure. Stomach crunches and plank holds are a daily routine as are the stationary bike and elliptical machine. You eat right for the same reason, but your tummy just lays there. You cringe in front of your mirror by the shower. You seek help regaining the tummy of your youth.

Having a tight, toned stomach is essential in the beach communities of Southern California, where the bikini is a staple for beach attire. Some women can enjoy a tight abdominal contour by following a serious diet and exercise routine; others suffer the effects of pregnancy and weight loss, and need help achieving the abdomen they desire. Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is designed to tighten and tone the stomach by removing excess skin and fat. As an added benefit, the procedure also tightens the abdominal muscles that have weakened or separated, creating an “internal girdle” that keeps the stomach flat and toned.

Tummy Tuck– What to Expect

To prepare for your tummy tuck procedure, you should avoid any blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, and Tylenol for two weeks prior, and two weeks following your tummy tuck surgery. Patients over the age of 50 need an EKG.

Tummy tuck surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at a local surgery center with a general anesthesia.

Before surgery, Dr. Sajjadian will meet with you to answer any questions or concerns you might have at the time. He will mark your abdomen while reviewing the surgery with you.

After anesthesia, Dr. Sajjadian will make a horizontal incision right above the pubic area, extending from hipbone to hipbone.  C-section scars are often removed simultaneously. Through the incision, liposuction will remove deposits of fat and excess skin.

To free the naval from surrounding tissue, a second incision is required vertically. Skin and fat layers above the abdominal wall are lifted to expose the abdominal muscles. These muscles will be pulled tighter together, then sutured, creating a tighter, flatter, and firmer abdominal wall.

A new hole will be created for your naval and the layer of skin and fat will be stretched over the abdominal wall. The excess fat and skin that hangs over the original incision will be cut away and removed.

Through tiny holes arranged in the incision, drainage tubes will be placed in the abdomen to allow fluid to escape while you heal.

Dr. Sajjadian will finish by making any necessary surgical modifications required. He will then close the incisions with sutures. A compression garment will be placed on your abdomen for support and to aid in the healing process during your recovery.

I had a baby 2.5 years ago and my tummy never went back to its look before the pregnancy. I found Dr. Sajjadian online. I was reading all reviews of plastic surgeons in Orange County and his profile stood out. I am not the person who makes a decision easily but after the first appointment I was sure he is the one! I was right. I am 2 weeks after the surgery, my tummy is flat and even with swelling look good. I think he did amazing job and his staff been very helpful. Girls in the office are wonderful. I know who will be my plastic surgeon in the future 🙂 I would recommend Dr. Sajjadian to my best friend.

What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

Depending on the extent of correction needed, Dr. Sajjadian may recommend a mini tummy tuck, a variation of the traditional tummy tuck procedure. Mini tummy tuck is performed through smaller incisions and is designed to treat patients who have minimal excess skin. It does not involve tightening the abdominal muscles or relocating the belly button higher on the abdomen. During your personal consultation, Dr. Sajjadian will inform you whether you are a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck, and will explain if it may help you achieve the desired outcome.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Abdominoplasty is an out-patient procedure, so you may go home the day of your operation. Your tummy tuck Newport Beach will be performed in Newport Beach or in Orange County. Abdominal swelling is expected for a few days as is some pain and discomfort. You will be given medication to control the pain and make you comfortable. A pain pump may be inserted during surgery to aid in your comfort. Standing up straight will be a problem at first, but you should start walking as soon as possible to avoid blood clotting.

Some patients return to work relatively early, within a week, but you should expect a minimum of two weeks before going back to work, or longer if your work demands strenuous activity.

mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure with a faster recovery rate that can be done if you are relatively close to your ideal body weight. Also, called a mini-abdominoplasty, this procedure tightens the lower abdominal wall skin only, providing the shortest possible scar. A full tummy tuck (standard abdominoplasty) tightens the entire abdominal wall and skin.

Dr. Sajjadian will schedule several follow-up visits to check your progress as you recover from surgery. He will advise when you can return to work, exercise and your regular daily activities. Recovery varies by patient, but most are back to work after two weeks.

The cost of tummy tuck varies with the specific approach that Dr. Sajjadian takes (mini vs. traditional tummy tuck) and other factors. We will discuss tummy tuck cost during your initial surgical consultation and provide more information about available financing options.

Picking a Plastic Surgeon

It is vital that you pick an accomplished surgeon for your abdominoplasty procedure. Your surgeon should have the right qualifications and credentials. These should include board certification, good standing with medical community and various medical boards, and impressive education, experience, and surgical track record.

Pay attention to the support staff as well. These will be the team members that you will lean on during your time of recovery. They should be professional, friendly, and compassionate. Make sure you are comfortable with the entire team.

You should do your homework and meet personally with each surgeon you are considering. It is also important to check out the facility where the surgery will be performed. Is it accredited? Don’t rush into something so important. Take your time to get well informed.

Tummy Tuck FAQs in Orange County, CA

In sunny Southern California, bikini bodies are highly sought-after. However, changes brought on by pregnancy and weight loss can make flat abs seem out of reach. People lose body fat with hard work, but they rarely regain the original tone of belly skin after extreme stretching.

When diet and exercise have achieved all they can, you may still struggle with loose, hanging abdominal skin and separated muscles. Some people have a “pooch” or protruding belly, even though they have minimal body fat. Diastasis recti is the medical term for this condition, which results from a separation of vertical abdominal muscles.

Tummy tuck surgery targets muscles for tightening, and removes the lax skin for a firm, tight contour.

Through trimming away skin and using liposuction to recontour, Dr. Sajjadian can completely transform your midsection.

Patients often report renewed confidence no matter what they’re wearing – even tiny, barely-there bikinis. The scar created from abdominoplasty is typically small enough to hide below the underwear line, and will fade over time.

The full or standard tummy tuck is similar to a mini. The differences lie in incision length and how much of the abdomen each surgery will treat.

Full abdominoplasty will improve the appearance of areas above and below the navel. In the process, Dr. Sajjadian will reconstruct the belly button and repair diastasis recti for a slimmer, tight waistline.

Your procedure may include liposuction on the abdomen and flanks. The incision required for full tummy tucks spans from hip to hip across the lower belly, allowing Dr. Sajjadian to remove a significant amount of excess fat and skin.

Alternately, mini tummy tucks treat the area below the navel. With a shorter incision, Dr. Sajjadian can still repair muscles, remove excess skin, and perform liposuction. Mini tummy tucks are best suited to those with minor muscle separation, unwanted fat, and skin laxity below the belly button.

Most of our patients don’t report much pain during their tummy tuck recovery, though tightness and sensitivity in the area are typical parts of the healing process.

You can manage pain with over-the-counter medication, and we recommend getting plenty of rest while avoiding strenuous activities such as heavy lifting.

Most Newport Beach tummy tuck patients return to non-strenuous jobs after one to two weeks, depending on their procedure’s specifics.

Yes. A tummy tuck does not affect your ability to become pregnant and give birth to a healthy baby. However, we recommend waiting to have your tummy tuck until after you are no longer planning to have children. While there are no major risks associated with pregnancy after abdominoplasty, the stress and strain of carrying a child to term can effectively undo many of the results achieved with your initial surgery. If your surgeon tightened your abdominal muscle fascia during your procedure, you may find that you redevelop diastasis recti and stretched, excess skin again after childbirth.

Understanding the differences between a tummy tuck and liposuction is a good starting point if you are considering body contouring but not sure what you need. Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess subcutaneous fat only. Many people have difficulty working off love handles or fat on their lower belly with diet and exercise. If you have good, elastic skin tone, liposuction may be ideal to achieve the smooth abdomen you want.

Tummy tuck procedures can remove excess fat, but they also use a long, horizontal incision to excise extra skin and will sometimes involve tightening abdominal muscles too. When sagging, loose skin or diastasis recti are a concern, your plastic surgeon will likely recommend a tummy tuck.

Diastasis recti is typically visible as a “pooch” or protruding belly, even for those who have little excess fat. It usually results from excess inner-abdominal pressure during pregnancy. Sometimes only a small, one- to two-inch separation exists and may be below the navel. In other cases, a wide separation is present from the pubic bone to well above the umbilicus.

Abdominoplasty procedures allow a plastic surgeon access to the muscle and tough, overlying material called fascia. Dr. Sajjadian pulls this strong layer toward the center on each side and sutures it in place with durable, medical-grade nylon stitches. This process works like a corset to slim the waistline and flatten the abdomen.

Abdominoplasty requires more patience for results than some cosmetic surgeries. It’s not uncommon to wait six months or more for residual swelling to disappear and for scars to mature and fade. However, in most cases, patients are excited to see very visible improvements right away. You’ll be able to celebrate each milestone as you heal and your new form continues taking shape.

Because a tummy tuck involves substantial surgical work, the normal swelling that lasts around the midsection can take a long time to resolve. Muscle and tissue tightness also persist for a few months or longer in some cases.

Rest assured that between six months to a year after your surgery, you’ll see and feel dramatic improvements from your procedure.
