There is probably no other facial feature that has a greater impact on how a person looks than the size and shape of the nose. The nose is the most defining characteristic of the face and a slight alteration can greatly improve or hurt one’s appearance. Nose shaping surgery, also known as rhinoplasty or a “nose job,” involves the reconstruction and shaping of the bone and cartilage to enhance the nose and/or improve breathing through the nose.
First you have to ask yourself, is rhinoplasty for you? We have clients come to us from all over California and abroad seeking nose shaping surgery for a variety of reasons. Many have trouble breathing through the nose. Others have suffered past injuries that has left them with some sort of misshapen nose and would like to restore better symmetry and correct the damage.
And then there are those looking to alter the size or shape of the nose to make it balanced with their features, or just to improve their appearance. The goal of nose shaping surgeries is to improve the nose aesthetically, creating harmony with the other facial features.
Before proceeding with any kind of nose shaping procedure, a young patient must reach full growth, usually around age fifteen or sixteen. Some exceptions to this rule are cases in which breathing is severely impaired. Also before deciding on a rhinoplasty, you may want to discuss the possibility of any additional surgery that might enhance the overall appearance of your face. Many of our clients who come in for nose shaping surgery also have chin augmentation in conjunction with rhinoplasty to create a better balance of features.
