It can seem impossible to get the butt you want. Even after hours and hours in the gym squatting, lunging, and climbing the stair master—you may still be struggling to achieve full, round, proportional buttocks. Especially if you have an athletic body and are physically fit, the time you spend working on cardio and other parts of your body can even end up shrinking your butt.
So, how do you get the curves you’ve been dreaming of? A butt lift might be the answer. In just a few hours, Dr. Sajjadian can provide you permanent results and a more proportional, dramatic, and attractive body contour. By using specialized fat transfer techniques, butt lifts provide holistic transformations, both filling out your backside and trimming targeted “problem areas” such as the abdomen, lower back, love handles, and thighs. This procedure has become a hot trend across the county and has seen a tremendous increase in the number of butt lifts performed each year.
Even with such meteoric popularity, though, our patients still have questions about what results will look like, and how to safely choose what to wear while recovering and getting used to their new body contour. After a lifetime of living in and dressing a specific body type, it can be shocking to realize clothes fit you very differently post-butt lift. Getting used to the shift can take time. It is completely normal to feel a little unsure of what to buy or what styles will look good a few months after you see the gorgeous final results of your procedure.
Embrace this chance to rebuild your wardrobe and wear what you want and what makes you feel good. There are several fashion tips and tricks for once you fully recover. Before then, it’s essential to dress carefully to help your body heal quickly and efficiently.

What to Wear During Recovery
You’ve successfully completed your butt lift surgery, and after getting cleared to be driven home by a friend or family member—you begin the recovery process from the comfort of your bed. What now? How and when can you return to your normal clothes? Are there any special considerations for how to dress during this initial healing period?
Before you head home, Dr. Sajjadian will give you a compression garment to wear. This underwear-like item of clothing is specially designed to help your body heal and relieve the swelling you’ll naturally experience after your surgery. Though these compression garments are by no means as flattering as lingerie, they are a vital part of your recovery process.
Most garments look a bit like Spanx or a partial body-suit. They cover a portion of your legs and the entire buttocks. By hugging your body’s curves, the compression garment works to shape and support your new, fuller posterior while helping your body retain as much transferred fat as possible.
During your first days at home, you’ll need to wear your compression garment morning, noon, and night. That means no showers either until Dr. Sajjadian approves you to take off your garment for bathing.
Staying Comfortable In Your Compression Garment
Your garment should fit like a glove, and if it doesn’t, it’s important to let us know. Ideally, you will experience a snug and supportive fit. Think of it like a full-body bandage—similar to medical wraps you would place on a sprained ankle or knee. It shouldn’t be uncomfortable for sleeping. Any squeezing or noticeable sensations of pressure or discomfort should be immediately checked on. You can look at your skin and note any irregularities, and be sure to contact Dr. Sajjadian.
In most cases, we recommend wearing your compression garment anywhere from three to six weeks after surgery. And at first, you’ll need to keep it on 24/7 (except for bathing once you get the go-ahead).
After you make it through the initial healing phase, most patients only need to wear a compression garment for 12 hours of the day. You can choose between wearing it in the day or night time to best suit your schedule and comfort.
When it comes to choosing clothing to wear on top of your compression garment, look for clothing that provides room to breathe and move, and feels great. Lush cotton sweatpants, flowing dresses, and pajamas are all perfect options. You’ll probably experience some soreness, especially in those first few days, so pick out outfits you love. That way, you not only prevent excess pressure to your healing buttocks, you’ll help boost your spirits and self-confidence.
As for sleepwear, follow the same general principles: stay comfy and roomy. Open sleep clothes, large t-shirts, or loose pajama pants all work. Be advised that you may need to sleep on your front or side during the healing process. Before you know it, you’ll be through with this first part of the recovery process and back in your usual underwear.
After the Compression Garment Comes Off
After a few weeks of wearing your compression garment, you’ll see a considerable improvement in the shape and fullness of your buttocks. Once Dr. Sajjadian approves you returning to your regular underwear, you can really begin to show off your new hourglass figure. That means finding clothes that compliment your bigger booty. You’ll likely experience a change in jean size (even if your waist stays the same) and that some skirts and dresses that used to fit perfectly may now ride a little bit too high.
When you head out to shop, there are a few stores, locally and online, that cater to a post butt lift body type. VICI and Daisy Lane, both based in Newport Beach, are beloved by our patients. Fashion Nova (the brand made famous by the Kardashians) and Zulily have excellent online selections of clothes cut for every body type.
Some general fashion tips that celebs and big booty women alike swear by:
- Dark, solid colors look great on a fuller butt
- Clothing that highlights your waist will show off your hourglass figure
- If you haven’t before, try out some angular shirts, pencil skirts, edge-sleeved dresses, and tops—favorites of Beyonce and Kim K
- Treat yourself to a new pair of heels to accentuate your new curves
Let’s Talk About Jeans
Of all the questions we receive from our butt lift patients, concerns about when and how to wear jeans come up again and again. In general, we recommend our patients wait a bit longer than the initial six weeks of healing before wearing tight pants or jeans. Even though you may be able to return to your regular activities, giving your body some extra time to avoid squeezing is always a good idea.
But let’s make one thing clear: a loose-fitting pair of jeans is perfectly okay to wear, even early on. You don’t need to avoid denim itself—it’s just the cut and style of snug pants that can cause discomfort or hinder a flawless healing process.
If it’s tighter than your compression garment, you shouldn’t wear it while you’re healing. Tight-fitting clothes may restrict blood flow to your buttocks, and this can lead to a loss of the transferred fat cells. By avoiding skinny jeans and tight pants, you help your body retain as much of the fat tissue as possible.
Once you’ve made it eight weeks past surgery, you should be able to return to jeans and skin-hugging styles. Of course, each body is unique, and so is your healing process. If you have concerns about a particular item of clothing, please contact us, and we can let you know if it’s okay to wear during your recovery.

When to Start Shopping for Your New Wardrobe?
Before you head out to redo your wardrobe post-butt lift, there are some things to consider. First, and most obviously, is your recovery period. You’ll only be able to wear certain loose items of clothing during this time, and that places a good deal of restriction on what you can try on. Also, though you’ll see a considerable increase in your butt’s volume immediately following your procedure, your final results take a bit longer to develop. Once you’re entirely through the recovery period after your body naturally reabsorbs some of the fat cells Dr. Sajjadian injected during your surgery (up to 40%)—you’ll have a clear idea of what your new butt is going to look like.
We recommend waiting until you’re fully healed to do the big shop for new looks. With that said, finding comfortable, flattering, loose clothing to wear during recovery can be a great way to begin getting used to your new shape and provide a mood boost.
