How Can a Breast Lift Transform Your Appearance?

For many women, breast appearance defines their femininity and plays a significant role in their self-esteem. But as you navigate through life, your breasts go through many changes that affect their firmness and elevation. For example, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and hormonal changes can alter breast shape and size until they lose the perky profile of youth.

Triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali Sajjadian helps women in Newport Beach and Orange County address their aesthetic concerns with his extensive training and experience in breast surgeries.

Why Do Your Breasts Change?

As women age, they lose breast volume due to various physical changes. As your skin loses its youthful laxity and gravity’s pull takes over, your breasts can appear heavy, flat, or deflated by the time you reach middle age. As a result, many women opt for a breast augmentation, where a surgeon inserts implants to replace lost volume and restore breast firmness. There are different implant materials and other options for a tailored approach to breast surgery.

Another option is to replace lost breast volume with natural fat from elsewhere on your body. For example, Dr. Sajjadian extracts excess fat from a donor site like the thighs or the abdomen, purifies it, then injects it into the breast area to replace volume and size.

Another problem women struggle with is pendulous, sagging breasts. When breast tissue stretches so far it can no longer snap back, your breasts will lose firmness, support, and elevation.

Do You Need a Breast Lift?

Mastopexy, or a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin tissue and reposition breasts to sit higher on your chest. Dr. Sajjadian accomplishes this by choosing the best breast lift technique for your unique anatomy and cosmetic concern.

He may perform his incisions:

  • Within the areolas
  • Downward from the nipples to the breast creases
  • Along the breast crease

Dr. Sajjadian will then place sutures to reshape breast tissue and reduce areola size if necessary. Next, he will remove excess skin and shift the nipple location higher on the breast pole. Finally, he will reinforce the breast support by closing the breast skin tissue with adhesives, surgical tape, or sutures.

Outstanding Results

Women will notice an immediate change in their breast appearance with continued improvement as their breasts settle and incisions heal.

Scarring will appear red and raised initially, but scars will fade and become thinner after about one year. Dr. Sajjadian is brilliant at positioning his incisions where bras and bathing suit tops can cover any scarring.

Combining Procedures

Many of our patients choose to combine their breast lift with other cosmetic procedures, including breast augmentation.

Pairing these complementary procedures gives you the best of both worlds. You can enjoy increased volume and firmness while giving your breasts a much-needed lift. Combining breast procedures is also practical because a breast lift will help support the added weight of breast implants.

Because having children affects multiple areas of a woman’s body, many mothers choose a mommy makeover to resolve their cosmetic concerns after childbirth and breastfeeding. The two body areas most affected by bearing children are the breasts and the abdomen. Therefore, many women opt for a mommy makeover with a breast lift and a tummy tuck. In addition, some choose to include breast augmentation in the procedure.

Preparing for a Breast Lift

initially, you will schedule a consultation with Dr. Sajjadian to discuss your concerns. During this visit, here’s what you can expect.

  • Review medical history: Be ready to discuss past or current medical conditions. Tell Dr. Sajjadian if you have a family history of breast cancer.
  • Share the results of any mammograms or breast biopsies: Additionally, he will talk about medications you’re taking or have taken and any surgeries you’ve had.
  • Undergo a physical exam: To determine your surgical options, Dr. Sajjadian will examine your breasts — including the position of your nipples and areolae. Dr. Sajjadian will also assess your skin health. Elastic, resilient skin will better hold your breasts in their new position. Dr. Sajjadian may take pictures for your medical record.
  • Discuss your expectations: Dr. Sajjadian will ask why you want a breast lift and what you expect from the results. He will also discuss surgical risks, recovery, and after-surgery care.

Before a breast lift, you may need to do things like these.

  • Schedule a mammogram: Dr. Sajjadian may recommend a baseline mammogram before a breast lift and another a few months later. The results from these exams will help your primary care physician see the changes in breast tissue to interpret for future mammograms.
  • Stop smoking: Smoking decreases blood flow and slows the healing process. If you smoke, you will need to quit before undergoing surgery.
  • Avoid specific medications: You’ll likely need to stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin, and herbal supplements, which may increase bleeding.
  • Arrange for help during and after your surgery: Make plans for a responsible adult to drive you home after the operation and stay with you for the first 24 hours. In addition, you might need someone to help you with daily activities, like cooking and other household chores during your initial recovery.
  • Lose weight: To decrease risk and assure optimal results, be close to your optimal weight for surgery.
