Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is one of the more popular plastic surgery procedures we do here in Newport Beach. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing deep excess fat deposits. Liposuction can improves body contours and proportion, as many of our Newport Beach plastic surgery clients can attest to, enhances your self-image and confidence.
As we all know, despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some fatty areas of the body are just plain stubborn and it can cause disproportionate contours and poor body images. Often these areas exist due to genes rather than a lack of weight control or fitness. In Newport Beach we frequently use liposuction surgery to treat stubborn fat pockets in many parts of the body such as the abdomen and waist, thighs, hips and buttocks, arms, neck and back, inner knee, chest, cheeks and chin, calves and ankles. Occasionally, liposuction is performed alone, but often it is used with other plastic surgery procedures such as facelifts, breast reduction surgeries, or tummy tucks.
To be clear, liposuction is not a treatment for obesity and is not a replacement for regular exercise and healthy eating habits. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite – that dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks because cellulite is in the superficial layers of the skin whereas liposuction treats the deeper layer of fat.
People who exercise regularly but continue to have stubborn areas of fat are the best candidates for this procedure. It would be best if one is not overweight. So if you are bothered by excess fat deposits on your body that don’t respond to diet or exercise, liposuction may be right for you. Ideal candidates for liposuction include adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone; overall healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing; non-smokers; and individuals with a realistic and positive outlook. Those with specific goals in mind for body contouring also have the best results.
Many of our clients who have come to us for liposuction in Newport Beach say that the satisfaction they feel from the initial results of liposuction should continue as long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Be aware that a significant weight gain can reverse your results. However if you view your slimmer and better-proportioned body as a reflection of the healthy and active life you lead or want you are more likely to maintain the beautiful results of liposuction.
