7 Tips to Prepare for your Rhinoplasty Surgery Day

You’ve dreamed about it, and now the big day is just around the corner. Rhinoplasty remains one of the most popular facial cosmetic surgeries for men and women of all ages. Its ability to enhance facial proportions makes it a positive and transformational experience for many patients.

Much of your result will depend on choosing the right rhinoplasty surgeon, and preparation on your part matters too.

We’ve provided 7 tips to help you get ready and get the most out of your procedure.

1. Choose Your Rhinoplasty Surgeon Well

Rhinoplasty results are permanent. This is an incredible benefit, as long as you choose the right practitioner to who can deliver your desired results.

Though any surgeon could operate on your nose, this challenging specialty requires much more than average experience. Your facial plastic surgeon must have qualifications and credentials, including board certification and specialized rhinoplasty experience.

Your surgeon’s support staff also matter. After all, you’ll be receiving preoperative instructions, having regular conversations, and visiting for follow up appointments. You should feel comfortable, welcomed, and heard.

We recommend visiting the clinic and arriving for your consultation with a list of prepared questions. Dr. Sajjadian is recognized as a leading rhinoplasty surgeon in Orange County. He’s happy to meet with you to discuss your nose job goals.

2. Be Realistic About Nose Surgery

This simple reminder can make a big difference. Those who recognize the limitations of cosmetic surgery tend to be most satisfied with outcomes. You can bring wish pics of noses to your consultation, but keep in mind that you can’t exactly have a friend or celebrity’s nose. Your unique facial proportions and tissue structure will require your surgeon to design your personal best rhinoplasty.

3. Get Healthy

If you have untreated health conditions, obesity, malnutrition, or smoke, it’s ideal to address these before scheduling elective surgery. It’s especially important to avoid nicotine. Nicotine limits blood flow in your skin and delicate nasal tissue, which needs good circulation post-surgery.

If you take medications or supplements, be sure to let your plastic surgeon know.

4. Prepare Home and Work for Recovery

These days, more businesses than ever are catching on that remote work, works. If at all possible, request to work from home during your recovery to be more productive and stress-free while avoiding overexertion. You can expect some visible swelling and bruises for roughly two weeks after rhinoplasty.

5. Pause Sports and Exercise

Don’t forget to pause your gym membership and expect to take time off from sports or strenuous activities. You should be able to return to your full fitness routine by 6 weeks.

For the first 3 weeks, avoiding blood pressure increases, and infection risks like swimming is vital.

After 3 weeks, light workouts resume, but you’ll still need to avoid activity that might put your nose at risk of impact, bending over and heavy lifting.

By week 6, gym equipment, swimming, gentle sports, and aerobic exercise are all considered safe. However, we’ll ask you to take precautions against nose impact for at least 6 months.

6. Attend All your Rhinoplasty Follow Up Appointments

Rhinoplasty recovery is relatively straightforward. That’s welcome news for Dr. Sajjadian’s patients. Still, it means some people don’t appreciate the benefits of follow up appointments or following instructions.

We’ll see you several times at our Newport Beach center during recovery. We assess progress, look for issues, talk with you about your experience, and help keep you on the right track to beautiful results.

7. Be Patient

Though the first few weeks will see dramatic improvements and resolve inflammation, you must expect some longer-term swelling. Sometimes it seems to take “forever” for that last little bit of nose swelling to go down. Or, our family and friends may not react as favorably as we’d hoped.

Rarely is a nose job meant to look like a completely different feature once finished. Instead, the subtle, artfully rendered improvements will help reveal your best facial harmony and gradually take subtle shape. A year down the road, you’ll see precision enhancements clearly, but you’ll need patience in the meantime.
