3 Tips to Maximize your Rhinoplasty Outcome

For those who feel self-conscious about their nose, there’s nothing more exciting than planning a rhinoplasty, then awaiting their new look.

Your nose job results rely heavily on selecting a highly-skilled, specialized facial plastic surgeon. There are also factors you contribute through carefully planning and following post-operative instructions. No doubt, you’ll want to do everything you can to ensure the transformation is totally satisfying.

Dr. Sajjadian is renowned for beautiful and natural rhinoplasty results in Newport Beach. Here are 3 of his best tips for ensuring results that you’ll love.

1. Get Lots of Rest and Avoid Exercise

When you plan to undergo any cosmetic surgery, you’ll need to be realistic about the required downtime. This is frustrating for many active people, but rest assured that the activity restrictions will help keep you safe, heal optimally, and reach the best outcome.

Most people take two weeks off of school or work. During the first week, we recommend you get plenty of rest. You may feel more tired than usual, and sleeping patterns may be irregular for the first few nights.

It’s helpful to get assistance with errands and house cleaning. Even seemingly harmless movements like stretching, bending over, or lifting things can increase facial pressure, leading to increased pain or swelling. Pause your gym membership and stick with casual walking until you get the green light to work out and play sports again.

2. Stay Out of the Sun and Heat

Avoiding sun exposure can be a challenge in warm, tropical climates and during the summer season, but stay vigilant. Your nose will be prone to sunburn in the weeks and months following the procedure, and inflamed skin may discolor in the sun as well. Any exposed scars could darken if not well-protected.

Likewise, hot, steamy showers and saunas might feel relaxing, but they’re not ideal for facial swelling. Stick to cold and room-temperature food and drinks, lukewarm showers, and baths.

3. Be Patient and Listen to Your Surgeon

One of the most challenging elements of healing is patience. Delicate soft tissues can hold residual swelling for quite a while.

By one month, you’ll see dramatic improvements and the majority of swelling resolved. However, it’s not uncommon to wait one full year for all swelling to leave and reveal refined results. Following the above steps won’t get you around that necessary process, but it can prevent delays and unnecessary frustration.

No matter what comes up, follow your own surgeon’s instructions over any advice you get from the internet, friends, or family. If you’re feeling impatient, you may be tempted to touch your nose/incisions, jump into activity before ready, or other actions that could delay healing.

If you need reassurance that you’re recovering on a reasonable timeline and all’s well, ask your surgeon during a follow-up appointment.
