Rhinoplasty can be quite a significant life changer for many.
Before and After Nose Surgery: A Patient's ReactionWatch a patient's emotional reaction when she finds her new nose exactly how she wanted it.
Rhinoplasty surgery is a major decision and extremely personal. Newport Beach’s Dr. Sajjadian therefore, consults with you in the initial meeting. During your rhinoplasty consultation, you will undergo a thorough medical examination and discuss why you want rhinoplasty. If found to be a suitable candidate for surgery, he and his world-class, professional staff will help you decide the rhinoplasty procedure most suited to your appearance and desired goals.
To make the most of your rhinoplasty consultation in Newport Beach, Dr. Sajjadian suggest you do personal research beforehand. Here are 3 websites that are reliable and informative:
- American Society of Plastic Surgeons– official website of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
- American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery– official website of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons
- RealSelf.com– a web-site where real surgeons answer questions from real patients about their concerns of plastic surgery procedures.
Your aesthetic concerns about your nose may be any of the following:
- Bump on the bridge
- Oversized nose
- Upturned/droopy tip
- Bulbous tip
- Oversized nostrils
- Deviated septum
Dr. Sajjadian will want to know your expectations of the rhinoplasty. It will help if you are as specific as possible. Bring a picture of a nose that appeals to you. From there, Dr. Sajjadian will share with you what is possible, and what results you can expect.
With a goal set, he will describe his approach for the procedure. You will be given instructions to follow for your preparation which may include:
- Avoiding certain medications,
- Quit smoking
- Taking care of your body by following basic good health practices
Who is a Good Candidate for Nose Surgery?
Men and women of every age group can benefit from rhinoplasty. Nose surgery is one of the more popular types of plastic surgery and is available to anyone over the age of 16. Although available to teenagers, they must exhibit the emotional maturity necessary to understand and cope with the cosmetic surgery process.
Whatever the age, it is important to have realistic expectations. Rhinoplasty provides improvement, and it cannot give you the nose of someone else. If you opt for a consultation at our Newport Beach office, Dr. Sajjadian will explain the nuisances of rhinoplasty surgery, and give you realistic expectations.
Reshaping the Nose
Reshaping the nose is a very common procedure. It can include either increasing the size, or decreasing it. The shape of the tip, the bridge, and the nostrils can be altered as can the angle between the nose and the upper lip. In some cases, breathing difficulties are resolved.
Your nose is the central feature of your face and therefore the most dominant. Nose characteristics are inherent and fully developed by the age of 16. Rhinoplasty is unwise before this age. For anyone seeking Rhinoplasty Newport Beach under the age of 18, a thorough consultation is advised.
Surgery of the Nose – What to Expect
Rhinoplasty surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis at a local surgery center in Newport Beach or Orange County. You will receive general anesthesia for your comfort during the procedure.
Your goal and nasal anatomy will determine the technique of incision used for your procedure, open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty.
Open rhinoplasty requires an incision across the columella (strip of skin separating the nostrils). This technique allows for better visualization and access to the nasal structure.
Closed rhinoplasty is less invasive. It’s incisions are restricted to inside the nostrils and reserved for minor reshaping.
Tiplasty is the area of reshaping rather than the incision technique. It involves reshaping only the nasal tip, without affecting the other nasal structures. Dr. Sajjadian may use open or closed rhinoplasty for tiplasty.
Your rhinoplasty will take place in our Newport Beach rhinoplasty and plastic surgery center. Through the incisions, Dr. Sajjadian will separate the skin from the underlying tissues and make the necessary surgical modification. This could include removing, augmenting or otherwise altering the bone, cartilage and tissue. Dr. Sajjadian will lower and smoothen any bumps, refine the tip/nostrils, and bring the nose into better proportion with the rest of the face. When he is finished with the procedure, he will close the incisions with sutures and place surgical bandages. He may also place a splint to help the nose heal.
Types of Rhinoplasty
While the majority of Dr. Sajjadian’s rhinoplasty patients are interested in the traditional rhinoplasty procedure, he also offers these other options at his Newport Beach rhinoplasty and plastic surgery center:
- Revision rhinoplasty – repairs the results of previous nose surgery
- Ethnic rhinoplasty – addresses features that are unique to specific ethnicities such as Middle Eastern, Asian, Hispanic or African American ethnicities
- Septoplasty – corrects a deviated septum
- Nasal obstruction correction – treats breathing problems involving the nasal air passages by addressing turbinates, septum or nasal valves.
“I have worked out all my life, and after 2 children, I couldn’t work off the fat despite consistent exercise. I had never had a surgery like this before. When I came to Dr. Sajjadian, he instantly made me feel comfortable. Almost 4 months later I feel happier and I see the results, with minimal scarring. My stomach looks like it did before I was pregnant.”
“Dr. Sajjadian takes the time to make sure you understand what he’s doing and why. He’s a conservative doctor who doesn’t like to rush thing, because he wants the best results for you as possible. He’s kind, caring, and thorough. I would recommend Dr. Sajjadian to anyone who is interested in considering getting a tummy tuck.”

“I trusted Dr. Sajjadian as I was able to see some of his cases beforehand, and the results were amazing. The Dr. made me very comfortable with what I wanted done. When it came to the surgery, I had very little bruising and swelling, and within 3/4 days I felt great. I have been back to the office since and would use Dr. Sajjadian again if I need any more work done.”
Recovering from Rhinoplasty Surgery
After a nose job or rhinoplasty, the nose may be swollen, sore, tender, or numb. You may also experience some mild, temporary bleeding after the first day or two. These side effects will gradually subside with time.
During your initial recovery, it’s important to keep your head elevated at all times (sleep included), and avoid any strenuous activities such as lifting or bending.
Do not blow your nose, and avoid sneezing through your nose if possible. To clear throat, try sniffing through the back of it. Leave any crust in your nose until removal of any splints. If you require splints, they will be removed within 2 weeks. It is also important to avoid any injury or blows to the nose during your recovery time. Do not engage in contact sports, and be careful around young active children who may jump around near your tender nose.
Because he’s committed to your care, Dr. Sajjadian will meet with you several times at his Newport Beach center during your recovery to check on your healing progress, and advise you when it is safe to return to work, school, or your normal routine.
You should be able to return to work after a few days, but it is recommended that you take two weeks off after surgery. Your eyes and nose will be swollen, and possibly bruised, so returning to work might be more difficult in that time frame.
As with all cosmetic surgery, rhinoplasty should be done for you personally. Don’t expect rave reviews from others, as the changes were meant to be subtle corrections of areas you were self-conscience about. Other people might not have noticed.
Nose Job: Continued Improvement Post Op
After initial swelling and bruising, you should see improvements Dr. Sajjadian made to your appearance. Residual swelling after a nose job surgery is common, but will not be noticed by others, and could take to one year to fully subside. In the meantime, as your nose swelling reduces, your appearance will improve gradually.
Your results will be permanent with rhinoplasty, so it is important to pick the right surgeon to do the procedure.
Post Rhinoplasty Exercise – What’s Allowed and When
If you regularly engage in fitness, your routine will have to be modified post-surgery. You should be able to return to your full routine after 6 weeks. Here is a week by week assessment of what you can do:
- Week one – you should limit exercise to light pace walking. It is vital not to raise your blood pressure as it can trigger swelling and a shift in the nose.
- Week two – Limited weight training is permitted. About 25% of your normal weights lifted, and number of repetitions. Limit heart rate and head movement.
- Week three – increase weights and reps to 50%. Cardiovascular activity can resume, with a 50% heart rate maintained. Avoid jogging and head movement.
- Week four – increase weights and reps to 50% as well as heart rate. Monitor swelling, if there is an increase, stop exercising and resume following week.
- Week five – Weight lifting may proceed to full pre operation weights and reps.Yoga may be included and cardiovascular activities can resume to pre-surgery levels.
- Week six – contact sports should be avoided for at least six months post operation. Swelling should be monitored looking for nose bleeds and swelling. Otherwise, full resumption of exercise is permitted moving forward after six weeks.
Rhinoplasty cost is a sizable consideration for many patients. There isn’t any standard pricing for this procedure as the cost varies by anatomic type and other factors.

There are small risks of chest infection due to the anesthesia, especially with people who smoke. There is a small risk of infection that could complicate recovery. You can minimize this risk by ensuring you are free of any cold or cough, cold sore or sore throat at the time of the operation. Any doubts should be discussed with Dr. Sajjadian while at his Newport Beach office.
Heavy nose bleeding is a complication that could arise from time of surgery to ten days after. This could require treatment in a hospital.
Difficulty with breathing through the nose is common due to swelling after operation. This generally disappears after swelling subsides, but the difficulty can persist and remain permanent.
There is also the risk that the desired result is not achieved. The look is not consistent with the individual goal after the swelling has settled. In these cases, a second surgery could be required to resolve the residual problem of appearance, but only after the swelling has subsided, and the nose is fully healed. Most surgeons prefer waiting a minimum of a year before a second surgery. Additional surgery could require additional expense. It should be noted that extreme surgical changes to the nose are not typically encouraged.
Choosing Your Plastic Surgeon for Rhinoplasty
Choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon in Newport Beach is of paramount importance. Any licensed physician can legally perform rhinoplasty.
But It is vital for your plastic surgeon to have the right qualifications and credentials. These include board certification, and good standing within the community and medical industry. Specialized rhinoplasty education and experience are critically important. Plus, a roster of satisfied patients should also be taken into consideration.
Don’t forget the support staff. Make sure they are professional, friendly and caring. This will be the people to lean on during your recovery. Make sure you are comfortable with the entire team.
It is very important to do your research and visit with the doctor personally. It is important to visit the facility where the surgery will take place. Don’t rush! You should make the time to get well informed.
Rhinoplasty in Newport Beach is elective, cosmetic surgery, so insurance won’t cover it. However, any functional repair aspect of your surgery may be. These can include septum repair or turbinate reduction to improve breathing.
Most facial cosmetic surgeons work with medical financing companies, which can make paying for your procedure more convenient. Once approved, you could spread your payments over one to two years. Ask about financing when you meet with our team.
It’s common to pair rhinoplasty with transformative facial sculpting and reshaping procedures. For example, you may consider a chin implant, blepharoplasty, lip lift or facial fillers.
Limitations include the amount of time required in the OR, and whether recovery from one procedure could possibly interfere with the other. In many cases, however, it’s possible to combine surgeries for a dramatic new look.
The best approach for you will depend on your specific needs. Dr. Sajjadian will be happy to listen to your goals, then recommend a plan to help you reach them.
Thankfully, most people don’t describe rhinoplasty as painful. Dr. Sajjadian uses an extremely gentle touch, and his approach reduces unnecessary tissue trauma or swelling. Patients often describe a sense of pressure and congestion in the face, which subsides after the first two days. We’ll send you home with a prescription for pain medication, which you may or may not choose to fill.
You can expect to take two weeks of work or school to allow safe, comfortable healing. You may have splints on your nose for up to two weeks. If your work or daily activities involve vigorous exercise, heavy lifting, sports, or other contact risks to your healing nose, we’ll advise you to wait an extended time before returning to your routine. You can expect swelling and bruises to reduce dramatically by two to three weeks after your surgery. However, even the best rhinoplasty surgeons in Orange County will ask you to be patient, as residual swelling persists in soft tissues for up to one year.
