Breast lift surgery is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures, so we warn all our Newport Beach plastic surgeryclients that some pain and a significant amount of swelling and bruising are to be expected. You’ll likely be very sore for the first three days, but it will subside slowly but surely. We recommend that our clients take at least a week off from work, during which time medication may to be taken to ease the pain. You’ll want to sleep on your back and avoid sleeping on your stomach. The bruising and swelling will be dramatic but will go down significantly within the first month. Don’t be alarmed though it will take about six to nine months for all the swelling to go down.
During the recovery phase, it is common to experience many weird changes that won’t stick around. For example, there may be some breast asymmetry as one side may heal faster than the other. The breasts may go through strange phases as they heal, but this normal as your new breasts begin to recover and take shape. You may not get complete sensation back in the nipple area for at least six months, maybe longer. In some rare cases, patients permanently lose some or all the sensation in their nipples. This is small risk you must be aware of when thinking about getting breast lift surgery, although this risk can be greatly reduced by choosing an experienced plastic surgeon who specializes in performing breast lifts and has done it many times before.
Breast lift surgery can leave red scars, which can be very noticeable for up to six months before they start to fade. Over the next six months to a year, these scars will usually fade into thin white lines that will not be nearly as noticeable, and will feel much smoother. You may use creams that will help heal and fade the appearance of the scars. Most of our Newport Beach clients feel that the breast lift scarsare worth it for perkier, younger looking breasts. In most cases they fade to being barely noticeable but it can take a while and some patients may be left with some permanent scars that never go away. Of course, like any plastic surgery procedure, the results will vary greatly from patient to patient, but if you come to our office in Newport Beach we will be sure to discuss all the options we have available to you for your breast lift surgery.
