Is IPL Right For Me?

Dr. Sajjadian begins every procedure by meeting with patients personally, listening to their concerns and creating an individualized treatment plan that addresses their unique needs. He also walks the patients through the procedure and answers any questions to ensure they feel comfortable and confident undergoing an IPL photofacial treatment.

During the procedure, Dr. Sajjadian gives patients protective goggles and applies a small amount of gel to the face to ensure even distribution. Then, he administers Intense Pulsated Light (IPL) technology to the surface of the skin. Depending on the patient’s condition, Dr. Sajjadian can use filters to specifically target and improve certain skin concerns, such as hyperpigmentation. The entire procedure typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes, with the patient experiencing minimal discomfort.

Dr. Sajjadian recommends IPL photofacial patients follow up the procedure by applying unscented moisturizer to the face two to three times a day. He also suggests patients apply sunscreen and avoid sun exposure whenever possible.

Patients typically require three to five treatments at approximately four week intervals in order to achieve optimal results.

IPL Photofacial in Orange County, CA FAQs

Intense pulsed light therapy is a non-ablative treatment that uses an intense but gentle beam of light. The treatment targets aging skin conditions without damaging any adjacent tissues.

IPL operates on the same principles as lasers, in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells in the skin. This means that it targets the lower layers of skin without affecting the top layers.

Though the IPL photofacial’s primary use is facial rejuvenation, the device also renews the upper chest, neck, hands, arms, shoulders, and legs.

IPL treatments remove sun damage, freckles, age spots, varicose veins, wrinkles, birthmarks, rosacea, and unwanted body hair.

During the procedure, you may feel a slight pinching sensation described by some as similar to an elastic band being “snapped.” We help our clients surmount this discomfort by providing a chilling gel and local anesthetic.

Avoid both the sun and sunless tanning beds for at least four weeks. Also, do not take aspirin or other blood thinners for at least three days prior to your IPL session. You cannot get an IPL treatment if you have infections or sores in the area.

To get the best IPL results, you should receive 4 – 6 treatments scheduled four weeks apart.

After IPL therapy, you may experience:

  • Slight bruising
  • Age spots and freckles looking darker and
  • Skin becoming crusty or flaky

These symptoms may last between 7 – 10 days
