Non-Surgical Cheek Enhancement

Dr. Sajjadian offers a non-surgical cheek enhancement procedure at his Orange County practice in addition to traditional cheek implants. Dr. Sajjadian uses injectable facial fillers as a way to enhance the natural appearance of cheeks without the surgery and recovery time. While the results do not last as long as a traditional cheek implant, non-surgical cheek enhancement offers fuller, proportioned cheeks in a minimally-invasive procedure that can deliver immediate results. Depending on your expectations for the procedure, non-surgical check enhancement could be the right procedure for you to restore a full, youthful and radiant appearance to your cheeks.

Buccal Fat Pad Excision

Buccal Fat Pad excision procedures are used to change the contour of the face by removing the Buccal Fat Pad. The Buccal Fat Pad is located in the lower cheek and can often cause facial roundness. When removed, the outcome is a more chiseled, defined facial structure. Removal of these pads can slim the cheeks and contour the face. Enlarged buccal fat pads typically present an appearance that is often referred to as “chipmunk cheeks” or “baby fat.” While most patients presenting with enlarged buccal fat pads can attribute the cause to weight gain, in some instances, it can be caused by a genetic predisposition. The recovery process is relatively quick and painless with no bruising. Once swelling subsides after 4-6 weeks, the face will display a new slim, contoured, and defined facial structure.

There are several non-surgical techniques that Dr. Sajjadian may recommend before undergoing more invasive procedures. These techniques are used to improve skin’s texture, and include microdermabrasion, fillers and peels. When there is a larger amount of correction needed, such as scarring, acne, wrinkles and spotting, Dr. Sajjadian may discuss undergoing a Dermabrasion treatment to even out the texture of the skin. Dermabrasion treatments are used to remove the first layer of the skin, which can soften skin’s texture and correct irregularities on the skin’s surface. Dermabrasion treatments reveal softer, more youthful skin.

Facial Bone Reduction

Dr. Sajjadian offers a number of procedures designed to correct the appearance of a wide face by reducing and shaping the cheek and jaw area. These procedures include:

  • Bone Reduction: Bone reduction is the most traditional and common treatment for reducing and shaping the cheek. Reducing the width of the face comes from cutting the bone (zygomatic osteotomies).
  • Cheek Fat Reduction: Dr. Sajjadian can create a more contoured appearance by removing excess fat and tissue from the face using liposuction.
  • Botox: In cases where the width is caused by an excess of muscle, Botox can be injected to relax the muscles; preventing them from contracting and widening the face.

Facial Wasting (Lipodystrophy)

Lipodystrophy, commonly known as facial wasting, typically causes the appearance of sunken cheeks (prominent cheek bones not concealed by the usual fat layer, hollowness and sunken temples).

There are several techniques available to address facial wasting, including custom implants, fat grafting, facial fillers, and facelift procedures. In most cases, patients should consider cheek implants first, as they are often the best solution to facial wasting. When combined with the use of injectable facial fillers, cheek implants can help restore the fullness and natural appearance prior to facial wasting.
