Are exercise and diet failing to give you the body contouring results you desire? This frustrating scenario is extremely common among many body-conscious folks in Southern California. There is a lot of pressure to maintain a beach-body year-round, and many people elect to complement their diet and exercise routine with surgical body contouring, or liposuction. Liposuction is designed to remove stubborn fatty tissue from areas of the body such as the neck, thighs, stomach, love handles, lower back, bra rolls, buttocks or arms.

To ensure beautiful liposuction results, it’s crucial to select a board certified plastic surgeon with years of experience and a track record of successful outcomes. Dr. Sajjadian is not only technically astute; he is also a master of artistry. He understands the intricate contours of the body, and uses liposuction to carefully sculpt out beautiful curves for a stunning result.

Planning Your Liposuction Procedure

All liposuction candidates meet with Dr. Sajjadian for an informative consultation. During the consult, Dr. Sajjadian reviews the procedure in detail, explaining the different techniques and technologies that he can incorporate. Then, he will evaluate you as a candidate for surgery; this involves a physical examination, where he will note factors such as the amount of excess fat you have and the quality of your skin. Ideally, your skin should have a good degree of elasticity so it will tightly hug your new curves.

Dr. Sajjadian will ask you what you hope to achieve with liposuction, and based on the information, will put together a customized surgical plan. Your plan may include treating a single problem area of the body, or may address multiple areas.

Once you’ve scheduled your surgery, Dr. Sajjadian will meet with you again and will give you detailed pre-operative instructions, which include avoiding smoking and certain medications, getting a lot of sleep and following a nutritious diet. Following these instructions minimizes your risk of complications and also may cut down on the length of your recovery.

Procedural Details

Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis at a local surgery center. Anesthesia will be administered for your comfort. The length of the procedure will depend on how many areas of the body are being treated and the extent of correction necessary.

To begin liposuction treatment, Dr. Sajjadian makes several small incisions in the treatment area. Through the incisions, he inserts a small hollow tube called a cannula, moving it  back and forth to break up the fat. Then, he uses gentle suction to remove the fat from the body. After Dr. Sajjadian is satisfied with his work, he will close the incision with sutures and bandage the area. He may also place a special compression garment to help the body’s tissues as they heal.  The incisions usually heal very well.

As one of the leading and top liposuction surgeons in Orange County, Newport Beach and the Inland Empire, Dr. Sajjadian offers three liposuction methods to meet his patients’ individual needs: tumescent, power-assisted and ultrasonic liposuction.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction involves injecting a tumescent solution into the body to help remove the fatty tissue. As the fluid is infused into the body, the tissues swell, allowing easier fat removal. When performing tumescent liposuction, Dr. Sajjadian can make tiny incisions and use a micro-cannula for more precise body sculpting results. The tumescent method lends itself to a shorter recovery period, as well as minimal pain and scarring.

Power-Assisted Liposuction

Another technique that helps make fat removal easier is power-assisted liposuction, which involves injecting a “wetting” solution to firm up fat, and then using a vibrating cannula to break up the fat deposits. Then, the tissues are suctioned out of the body through small incisions. Power-assisted liposuction allows for decreased swelling and bruising, and a shorter recovery period.

Ultrasonic Liposuction

Ultrasonic liposuction is similar to power-assisted liposuction in that it also involves the use of a special cannula. However, the cannula used for ultrasonic liposuction emits sound waves that break up the fatty tissue. Some forms of ultrasonic liposuction, such as Vaser, preserve blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue to minimize bruising and swelling.

Recovering from Liposuction

You will be released from the surgery center shortly after your procedure to recover at home. The treated area may be sore, swollen, bruised or tender after surgery, but these side effects are temporary. During your initial recovery, you should get plenty of rest and avoid any strenuous movement and activities. Gentle walking is permitted to promote good circulation.

Dr. Sajjadian will check in with you at several points during your recovery to monitor your healing progress and advise when it is safe to return to work, exercise and your normal activities.

Although every patient recovers at a different pace, many people are able to return to work and their daily routine within two weeks or earlier. It’s important to recover at your own pace and not push your body if you don’t feel ready.
