The nose is one of the most prominent features of your face, and there is virtually no way to hide it under makeup or a hat. If the appearance of your nose causes you to feel embarrassed or self-conscious, you may want to consider surgical correction. Rhinoplasty is a facial procedure designed to improve an oversized, crooked or otherwise troublesome nasal appearance. Imagine how much more confident you’ll feel, knowing that your nose looks great and balances out the rest of your facial features.

Dr. Sajjadian is well-known as one of the top rhinoplasty surgeons in Newport Beach and Orange County, with a passion for rhinoplasty procedures. He has in-depth training in the areas of nasal and facial surgery, and has published and lectured extensively about the topic. His goal is to improve his patients’ overall aesthetics by making small, subtle changes that look natural but bring the nose into better proportion with the rest of the face. Dr. Sajjadian’s skillful hands and artistic eye create harmony between the nose and the other features, including the eyes and mouth. Rhinoplasty patients are usually very pleased with the results of their procedure: a subtle yet beautiful improvement in the overall aesthetics of the nose and face.

Preparing for Rhinoplasty

The first step of your preparation for rhinoplasty is to meet with Dr. Sajjadian for a personal consultation. During the consultation, Dr. Sajjadian will examine your nose and other facial features, and ask you what you’d like to improve about your nose. You may have concerns about any of the following:

  • Bump on the bridge
  • Oversized nose
  • Crookedness
  • Upturned/droopy tip
  • Bulbous tip
  • Oversized nostrils
  • Deviated septum

Dr. Sajjadian will also inquire as to what you’d like your nose to look like after surgery. It’s helpful to be as specific as possible, or even to bring in a photograph of your “ideal” nose. Dr. Sajjadian will give you a better idea of what is realistic and reasonable.

After you’ve mutually agreed on the goals of surgery, Dr. Sajjadian will describe the approach he plans to take with your procedure. He will also give you instructions for preparing for surgery; these instructions will include avoiding certain medications, quitting smoking and generally taking good care of your body up until your day of surgery.

Procedural Details

Rhinoplasty surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis at a local surgery center. You will receive anesthesia to sleep comfortably during surgery.

The approach that Dr. Sajjadian takes with your case depends on the goal of surgery, your nasal anatomy and other factors such as facial features and nasal airway/breathing. He will use either the open or closed technique. If he is performing an open rhinoplasty, he will make the surgical incisions across the strip of skin separating the nostrils (called the columella). If he is performing a closed rhinoplasty, he will keep the incisions within the nostrils. Open rhinoplasty allows better visualization and access to the overall nasal structure; whereas closed rhinoplasty is a less invasive approach reserved for minor nose reshaping.

Through the incisions, Dr. Sajjadian will separate the skin from the underlying tissues and make the necessary surgical modification. This could include removing, augmenting or otherwise altering the bone, cartilage and tissue. Dr. Sajjadian will lower and smoothen any bumps, refine the tip/nostrils and bring the nose into better proportion with the rest of the face. When he is finished making the surgical modifications, he will close the incisions with sutures and place surgical bandages. He may also place a splint to help the nose heal.

While the majority of Dr. Sajjadian’s rhinoplasty patients are interested in traditional rhinoplasty, he also offers:

  • Revision rhinoplasty – repairs the results of previous nose surgery
  • Ethnic rhinoplasty – addresses features that are unique to specific ethnicities such as Middle Eastern, Asian, Hispanic or African American ethnicities
  • Septoplasty – corrects a deviated septum
  • Nasal obstruction correction – treats breathing problems involving the nasal air passages by addressing turbinates, septum or nasal valves.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

After rhinoplasty, the nose may be swollen, sore, tender or numb. These side effects will gradually subside with time. During your initial recovery, it’s important to keep your head elevated at all times (including while you sleep), rest and avoid any strenuous activities such as lifting or bending.

Dr. Sajjadian will meet with you several times during your recovery to check on your healing progress and advise when it is safe to return to work, school and your normal routine.

Rhinoplasty Cost and Financing

Rhinoplasty cost depends on several factors, including the specific approach that Dr. Sajjadian takes with your case. The cost of rhinoplasty will be discussed in greater detail during your initial surgical consultation, as will financing options available at our practice.
